During the Tang Dynasty, China was the most successful because of the woodblock printer and civil service exams which helped increase intelligence. Woodblock printing was invented during the Tang Dynasty. According to http://www.ducksters.com and http://education.asianart.org, woodblock printing led to a massive amount of books being written and copied. The woodblock printer also made books cheaper. This proves the woodblock printer was a significant feat during the Tang Dynasty because the massive amounts of books being printed help educate the public. Also since it was cheaper, more people were able to afford it. The woodblock printing was also used to print Buddhist text. However some disagree, they claim the Song Dynasty was better because
So why was there a flourishing of literature during the Tang and Song dynasties? The answer to this question lies primarily in the fact that civil service exams instituted during the Tang and Song demanded significant literary skills. Poetry was considered the most refined and elevated means of expression, and was believed to be relevant to many professional arenas, including diplomacy, communication, reasoning, and philosophy. Civil service exams were used to identify capable people for government service and were the most important avenue for people from different social backgrounds to achieve political ambitions and gain prestige. Although the practice of the exams originated in the sixth century, it was not widely established until the Tang and significantly expanded during the Song. During the Tang, exam candidates were tested on poetry composition. This meant that if a person in the
During the Song Dynasty China was the most successful because it made life easier for China.
In fact, the Chinese were the first civilization to have dynasties. A dynasty is a ruling family. New dynasties mean very new things for the people of China. Whenever someone new took over they would lower taxes, restore peace and rebuild the roads and irrigation systems. As the dynasty aged they would eventually raise taxes. This would get the people very mad. People revolted because they were mad at all the problems going on. Then a new dynasty will take over. This continues for every dynasty. This is also called the Dynastic Cycle. Another thing the Chinese invented was the compass. We still use the compass today to tell us what direction to go in. The Chinese civilization’s achievements had a large effect on our life
The invention of paper really helped calligraphers and communication throughout the Han. Paper became much easier to create because it was much cheaper than what was used before
Woodblock printing was invented around the year 220CE in China. Inventors decided carving out from wood and using them as stamps was much more efficient than writing. In the 5th century CE, Arab Muslims were also printing texts, mainly passages from the Qur'an which is the Muslim version of a bible. The Arab Muslims had already embraced the Chines craft of paper making, the Muslims had also developed the craft and adopted it widely in the Middle East. The Arab Muslims continued this method for about 500 years. Whether or not the Arab Muslims may have influenced the eventual adoption of printing in Europe is still debated about to this day. The possibility of
The Ming Dynasty ruled China from 1368 to 1644 (Morris). The Ming Dynasty was established by King Zhu Yuanshang, who named the dynasty not after Nohis family but the word ming which can mean “bright” or “luminous” (“The Chinese Ming”). It had a population around eighty-five million making it the largest civilization on Earth. As Professor Clunas points out in the exhibition’s exemplary catalog, everything about it was on a grand scale: “It had a greater land area, bigger cities (and more big cities), bigger armies, bigger ships, bigger palaces, bigger bells, more literate people, more religious professionals.” (Morris). Not only was the Ming Dynasty bigger, it brought many major advances in art, technology, and philosophy during its time.
The Han Dynasty was mainly known for its culture and several innovations that many people still use to this day. One
Han dynasty was the most influential in Chinese history. First of all the Han lasted much longer than the fiveteen year of Qin rule. Instead of fighting they made many inventions listed above and other advances to help China become stronger and prosperous country. The contribution to the Silk road also helped China because of all the trade they began to do. The paper invention influenced literature that someone named Sima Qian created the first Chinese history book. In astronomy they recorded the first record of the solar system. They were also less cruel than the Qin dynasty but yet they were still power. All their inventions and all there practices and ways of doing things makes the
- China had the most profitable and wealthiest economy compared to most of the world via their highly export-based trade.
Mayella Ewell is a liar and a cheat but that’s not the big picture. She has come from the dumps of the town where the trash is stored and has no education. Her family is broke and her dad is the only one allowed in all of Maycomb to hunt anytime of the year because of how much poverty her family has gathered. During the infamous trial of Maycomb county, Mayella is the center of attention as she has claimed to be raped by Tom Robinson, a local black worker at the cotton mill. She wants to use this attention to fit in and feel accepted. Mayella isn’t like any of the normal girls her age and right now that's all she wants to be. Mayella is trying so hard to do that. On top of all that, she has an abusive, drunk father who doesn’t support the family like he should, leaving the job to Mayella. Mayella Ewell is a sympathetic character because she comes from a
The stereotyping around drug use is very prominent in today’s society. But, what if instead of judging people with addictions, the world viewed addiction as an illness and treated those with addictions as patients in need of help and support? Harm reduction is a controversial topic that can simply be defined as “an approach to working with clients who engage in behaviours that include some level of risk” (Stenekes, 2015). The concept of harm reduction is outlined in the case study titled Harm Reduction by a “user-run” Organization by T. Kerr, et, al. Throughout this case study, I was given an inside perspective of what it is like to engage with drug users everyday, and how in need of support they are.
The Qin Dynasty ended with the death of Shihuangdi and was followed by the Han Dynasty after Lui Bang’s army conquered the Qin Dynasty.. The Han Dynasty is known as one of the greatest eras recognized in China. Lui Bang founded the Han dynasty in 206 BCE; it was the second dynasty of China. He started a bureaucracy founded on intellect (Gill). Confucianism was the main philosophy at this time, “confucianism deals primarily with moral conduct and ethical living and is often categorized as an ethical system. It emphasizes the earthly, not the heavenly” (What). Once paper was invented literature became very popular. This prompted Sima Olan to write the Book of History. This book contains the first record of Chinese history. Porcelain was also new at this time and became a very popular (Western).
The first reason why the Tang dynasty is the most impactful is that many cultural advancements occurred which affected the future culture of China. For example, a form of novel was created called Chuan Qi. This type of novel had a complex storyline and often reflected real life. These novels later became the basis for future stories (“Tang Dynasty”). In other words, the novels created in the Tang dynasty influenced the structure of future stories. Another example of the Tang dynasty’s cultural impact is through poems and
Even though selflessness will always be driven by serving one's values, feelings, or desires which is ultimately serving you, altruism does exist. Altruism exists when it requires a person to sacrifice for another without consideration of personal gain because not every act has a selfish motive. People must learn to contribute to life through objective reality because it universalizes existence. Everyday life is filled with small acts of altruism. Or maybe altruism does involve being self-interested after all.
The following are the Chinese dynasties in order from oldest to most recent: Xia, Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing. The legendary dynasty is the Xia, which is believed to be around 2000 BC. The Shang (1700-1000BC) developed the first written Chinese language. The Zhou (1028-221BC) built the first roads, expanded trade contacts and trade routes, and also developed plows and irrigation systems. Trade at this time was expanding in China. The Qin Dynasty (221-207BC) built the famous Great Wall of China as a defense mechanism and also united all of China under one central government. Next is the Han Dynasty (207BC-AD220), which did a lot for China in terms of trading. They developed the Great Silk Road, a trading route that stretched from China all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. The Sui Dynasty (589-618) united almost all of China. Followed in suit by the Tang Dynasty (618-917) discovered one of Chinas' leading exports, porcelain. During the Tang Dynasty, the first block-style printing press was invented. The Song Dynasty (960-1279) came next, which took over all of China and later took the southern rule after being conquered by the Jin. The Song Dynasty is responsible for developing Chinese cuisine as we know it today. During this time period the compass and gunpowder were also discovered. The Jin Dynasty (1127-1234) took rule over Northern China from the Song. The Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368) brought a long period of peace to
