On March 10,11, and 12 The Woodington Players are taking the stage to perform the Wizard of OZ. Erika Lucas plays Dorothy and goes on a journey down the yellow brick road and bumps into a few of her other classmates. The Woodington Players have been working on this production since the beginning of January. The Woodington Players have always wanted to do this musical and according to Mrs. Bialkin “ We have the right people for the right roles,” so it was finally time to do it. The leads are played by Damon Vincenty as the Scarecrow, Muhammed Muhsin as the Lion, Dave Russo as the Tin Man, Emma Scholes as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Melissa Rissetto as Glinda. They have running crew and set crew have built the set themselves and art crew painted the majority of it. They added their own touch to a few things but there is no question it is the land of OZ. “Everything always comes together to make a great show,” said Sara Bayles. The cast can’t wait for everyone to come out and see it. They want to show off all the hard work they have put into it. The set crew and costume crew are almost ready and have put a lot of hard work into the show as well. Some of the costumes are hand made and nothing is like the crew found it. They have done work on every single piece of clothing that will be worn. The Woodington Players expect a bigger turn out for this show because it is more age appropriate then some of their past shows for younger kids. Also because a big amount of people watched the movie when they were younger and it is well known. Plus people have been waiting for them to perform the Wizard of Oz and they finally are. This is the last show for the seniors in woodies so there will be lots of emotions back stage but the show won’t change because of that. The cast and crews are excited and ready for opening night Sara Bayles said “ Everyone is working hard to put on the best show.” The cast and crews can’t wait to see the turn
I chose the genre string quartet and attended a concert at First Presbyterian church on October 19th, 2014. Because of its location the sanctuary where the concert took place had many stained glass windows. It was marvelous and in my opinion well suited the feel of classical music. The audience was very responsive and attentive. They applauded when the musicians appeared, in between pieces, and at the very end. They were quick to join in the sing along portion of the concert. Overall the people attending were an older crowd but you could tell they truly appreciated the music. The concert’s duration was around an
As with most kids, I was a bit nervous about my transition from middle school to high school. One advantage I had was that I participated in band in middle school and planned to be in the band in high school. The Round Rock High School band has a history of excellence and I was looking forward to being a part of that organization. This was an extraordinary time and I looked forward to being a part of the band with great anticipation. Being a part of an organization such as this makes the transition to high school seem much easier and it seemed I had a ready-made group of friends that I could rely on and ask questions of if necessary. After all, the Round Rock High School Band has over 300 members.

Every day millions of Americans turn on their radios, IPods, or some other device which allows them to listen to their favorite musicians and have no idea that there is a union standing guard to ensure the rights of those very musicians. The average American may think their favorite musicians are rolling “dough” and not realize that for the past hundred and fourteen years the American Federation of Musicians, aka AFM, has worked to improve the professional lives of musicians across North America. (American Federation of Musicians, 2010) AFM attracts its members with a mission to unite professional musicians which states, “We can live and work in dignity; Our work will be fulfilling and compensated fairly; We will have a meaningful voice
Have you ever wished you could travel to another land like Oz and go on a magical adventure? Well I know for after seeing the Wiz with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson, I sure wanted did. I finally got my wish of traveling to Oz by being in a production of the Wiz in elementary school. Ever since then I have been going to see as many productions of the musical because it is my favorite so why not choose this as one of my third shows to see for class. Wrong!!! To my hearts dismay, I should have relived the glory days of myself. In the production of the Wiz I saw, there were only 30 children so most of them played multiple roles ranging from being a background dancer to the main character. My goal was to focus on the main characters: Dorothy, Scarecrow,
School Musical, Jr. It was finally time to show all of Oxford what came out of these very long, but special two months. Having been with the rest of the cast everyday for so long, I had grown a very strong relationship with each of the six principal actors. All of us had become so close. We had a bond like no other and you could see it when we performed together. This made our performance all the better. The six of us were more than honored to play the roles we had— especially me, playing the lead female role of Gabriella Montez.
The swing bands showed a highly organized approach to performing Jazz. Fletcher Henderson’s band started the evolution that established the legacy for big bands to follow, both white and black. Henderson’s band merge into the sections we now call big bands, the contrapuntal lines necessarily became more formalized and thereby less improvised. “The first signs of sectional activity appeared in the clarinet trios that is heard in Jelly Morton’s arrangements.” There are four sections including, the sax, trumpet, trombone and, rhythm section of the classic big band.
The two pals feed off each other’s comedy and the viewers love every minute of it. On Wednesday night the two stars sang a song and made fun of their counselor at Camp Winnipesaukee. An ongoing sketch, the chance to share the same stage is social media gold. The segment hadn’t even aired on the west coast before it was trending on Twitter. Missed the segment? Check out the video below and pay particular attention to how the stars kept making each other laugh!
The Wizard of Oz is a story that first introduces us to our main character, Dorothy Gale. She is a young, sweet girl who is accompanied on an adventure by her small companion, a dog named Toto. The majority of the story is set in the magical Land of Oz. Throughout the journey, we meet the friends that follow Dorothy through Oz, they include a scarecrow, a tin woodman, and a lion. There are also many characters with small parts such as Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, The Good Witch of the North, the Munchkins, the Queen of the Field Mice, and the Wicked Witch of the East.
On November 10, 2016 I attended Elf the Broadway Musical written by David Berrenbaum and directed by Sam Scalamoni. Elf the Broadway Musical was produced by Texas A&M University and MSC OPAS. It was a comedic musical that appealed to a wide variety of audience members. Elf the Broadway Musical was a delightful surprise, since I had seen Elf (film) I expected the play to appeal more to a younger audience, but I was surprised when I found myself laughing alongside the two children sitting next to me. Before, I had seen this play I had been to a handful of other popular plays such as The Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Beauty and the Beast, and Cinderella. For whatever reason I was not very excited to attend Elf the Broadway Musical, but the second the play began I knew that my opinion was about to change. As the play continued, I was in complete awe of this play from the plot, the acting, and the technical side of the production. Overall this play was an amazing way to put the entire audience into a holiday spirit and remind us what the holiday season is about.
For Sarah’s second Arrowhead show, she is extremely excited to take on a new role in the Drama Department. For In-Laws, Outlaws, and Other People (that should be shot), Sarah is working as a props and costume manager. While she loves to act, Sarah is happy to take any opportunity to be involved in theater and see her second family. Her past roles have been as a townsperson in Arrowhead’s Our town and multiple parts at North Shore Middle School some of which include the Ghost of Christmas Past in A Christmas Carol and Gertrude Mcfuzz in Seussical the Musical. Sarah would like to congratulate everyone in the cast and crew for their hard work to make this an amazing
Jazz music is about a century old now and many different variations and subgenres have formed from it since its inception. The origins of it are interesting as it was a fusion of cultures in New Orleans and now it has evolved into dancing, relaxing, joyful, and depressing music. There is big band, Dixieland, bebop, smooth jazz and many more genres to choose from when looking to listen to some jazz. Jazz is a very universal genre and studied in most countries by musicians because of how unique it is compared to other genres. Usually, jazz bands prefer to stick to one style of jazz to perfect that certain style. However, at Louisiana State University, the music department has many jazz bands which play a variety of jazz pieces which range in age, style, and
