During one my work evaluation I was my manager told me that my background knowledge of the food and beverage industry is what helped me excel in the trainee program. Applying what I learn in school is highly effective and it beneficial to yourself and your employer. It also gave me confidence knowing the general knowledge of the field I am working in so that I can push my limits and exceed expectation. My confidence in general has increased in working because now I have experience and I have set a bar for myself because I know my level of work performance. Now that I have completed my Co-op I see the world through a different perspective. I see that value of work not through just time and money but they experience gained that can be used in
Work experience will build and increase confidence level, make you learn how to meet deadlines, pressure managing ability, the most important ones are people management, and time management. These will have an impact on you.
After reading over case study 7, Handling Disparate Information for Evaluating Trainees, the two questions that I chose to respond to are as follows:
While attending both GMU and NVCC I have been working close to or at full time. This has not only had the impact of me needing to balance my time between the two, but also taught me the value of finding real world applications for the knowledge that I’ve attained. While working at my current job at Trader Joe’s, I have been able to use knowledge that I’ve learned in both my general education and degree specific classes to make me a better employee and trainer. After having worked on a research paper about a plant of our own choosing (I choose apples) and how it related to humanity and what its history with us was, I was able to take both take both my new knowledge of apples and ciders and help people at work make more informed purchases. My education classes have also given me several skills in teaching people how to do new tasks and learn new information and I’ve been able to better teach our new and current employees about new ways we’re doing stuff in our stores and the items that we sell.
The purpose of this document is to demonstrate my having acquired and developed the competencies noted by the College of Nurses of Ontario as possibly lacking in my skills and experience. During my time practicing as a nurse in Ethiopia, I feel I have gained the required skills and experience needed to be accredited as a nurse in Ontario. My time working with a diverse array of clients, as well as in different care settings has imbued in me a range of skills and competencies that I feel make me exceptionally qualified to practice as a nurse in Ontario. During my time in practice, as well as in clinical placement, I have been fortunate enough to buttress my learning with a variety of different
Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2015) states that all nurses should be competent at carrying out an accurate assessment on patients of all ages safely using invasive and non-invasive procedures. Benner (1982) formed the stages of competency: Novice; this is where I started in year one, I had never done a manual blood pressure before and lacked confidence. Advanced beginner; this is where I feel I am at present, I can take a manual blood pressure with occasional supportive cues, I am more confident than the first time and my knowledge is improving. Competent; this is the stage I expect to be at when I qualify, I would like to feel confident and I intend to know exactly what I am doing and why. Proficient; this is where I expect to be
My day was planned so I thought, I was scheduled to go out with my mentor, Francis. We had a full day planned with the possibility of me making a school contact alone. My field supervisor, Stephanie and I were having our usual morning chat when we were approached by foster care worker, Ms. Williams. She wanted me to supervise some parenting time, so she could attend court. I had supervised parenting time before and I will admit it is not the most exciting thing to do. Parenting time can last up to 4 hours requiring you to sit at the room door and monitor the parent’s interactions with their children. Although it can be quite daunting, I do however understand the importance of this family time. I was immediately put on the spot and I really wanted to say no to supervising this time for her. I also did not want to be uncooperative or not a team player in the presence of my field supervisor.
If you were just hired to work as a tree-cutter this summer, there are a few things that you need to know about staying safe at your new job. Here are five things you should always do to stay safe on your new job.
After reviewing exhibit 7.4.2, list what you regard as the major problems with the Darby appraisal system. Make specific recommendations about changing the system.
As you are now well aware the PEP is an effective pre-employment screening tool. You also know applicants for law enforcement are normally looking for a career position, and if they are not hired at the first department they will often continue applying at other agencies. One way you can make the PEP more effective is recommending neighboring Law Enforcement Agencies also use the PEP. With our share program you will benefit by having access to PEP results your applicants have taken in the past.
This demonstrates I am more than willing to go outside my comfort zone to explore different cultures and social values attitudes in society. The experience overall has made a confident person and gained me the experience to work with people from different cultural backgrounds. Alongside university, I have worked part-time at Holland and Barrett during my years at University. This has developed my time management skills and organisation skills throughout the years, which is something I can apply to future projects and research. An advantage of working part-time and studying at university is that it has improved my skills working within a team in a professional and friendly way. I can confidently communicate my ideas and creatively think of solutions for problems that occur, including for independent study and
While pursuing my Associates Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts from The Culinary Institute of America I was introduced to numerous working kitchen environments that were entirely new to me. The rigorous curriculum that proceeded throughout the course ensured that going into the industry I would have the knowledge and techniques required to be successful in any potential work environment I may take on.
For the professional development Experience, I have two goals. Firstly, I would like to learn how to run an institution. I believe that having an opportunity to work directly in a human resource department in an American institution. It will give me an opportunity to learn how to identify and recruit talents for my coming organization. Learning to identify talents will ensure the progress of that organization. I plan to share what I have learned with my schoolmates from more than 31 countries who are also planning to start their own organization. As an activist, beside of sharing the knowledge acquired in the USA with other activists. I will use it on the projects that we will be working on at the time.
One thing that many universities do not automatically provide with an undergraduate degree is a workshop, like some trades schools do. I believe Co-op will help me exercise the knowledge I have gained from university classes and get a hands-on experience. This will be a huge asset to have, as I can go into a job knowing what I will expect. Moreover, many students do not know what to do or where to apply after they graduate with their bachelor’s degree. I hope Co-op will help to give me a direction in what I want to do or decide what job type would be ideal for me with the degree I am obtaining. Also, as I am a transfer student, I will be graduating a year later, so the paid position would help to pay for tuition. Although it will be another
I found the Read section’s skill assessment both interesting and useful. I wrongfully assumed the assessment would be scored based on the sum of my responses, and that the score would be used to extrapolate some generalization about my personality. I was surprised to find that was not the case. After reviewing my responses to the exercise, I learned that, although I like to think that I possess solid leadership abilities, the skills l listed in my weaknesses category are littered with words like “management” and “leadership” (Bethel University, 2014). Because I doubted the veracity of my own responses, in addition to surveying myself, I enlisted the help of my fiancé to evaluate me using the skills found in the assessment. I then compared her results to that of my own and discovered, much to my astonishment, that both our assessments were congruent.
It is important to ensure the new employee receives training before being aloud to input data into the systems. The new employee will require a combination of side by side training where they are able to watch, listen and learn. The new employee will also need to know where they can access this information if they get lost in the process, in some cases this may be found on the company intranet under user guides. These user guides usually show the process using a combination of instructions and screen shots to ensure easy to follow directions. During the training phase it is important to check in with the new employee or have regular coaching sessions where certain areas of difficulty can be addressed and gone through. It is also important once the training period has come to an end and your new employee is ready to start capturing the data that they again have a period of side by side assistance. This would entail watching the new employee go through the motions of data entry providing guidance when required. One very good way to ensure consistency is to provide a call flow sheet with each step.
