“What is so hard about working at a rental car place? All you do is sit, smile and rent cars”, says the person who has never worked at a rental car place. Every aspect of working for a rental agency is challenging and demanding. You see a car rental agent is not just a car rental agent, we are magicians, therapists, punching bags, actors, track stars and maids. All the aforementioned descriptions are just my interpretation of who I am to my customers. To upper management and corporate I am an administrative manager, accountant, business analyst, and salesperson. This job isn’t for the faint hearted due to the amount of pressure and stress put on location managers by customers and corporate.
Two years ago, I applied for this job thinking that I would be able to promote easily and that I wouldn’t be with the company longer than a year. Shortly after being I hired, with two weeks of online training I was sent to work in what San Diego Off Airport locations affectionately call, “the beast”. “The Beast” better known as the Mission Valley Branch, is a 5 location branch, other branches have just three locations. Mission Valley does three times the rentals of any other location in San Diego. The beast is so scary that other Hertz employees refuse to transfer to the location as well as, 70% of the new employees placed in the beast quit the job in just three months. Unlike other employees, I have figured out how to survive the beast. In the two years that I have worked in the beast,
Enterprise Rent-A-Car has started its operations in 1962 by establishing and successfully developing a new niche in the car renting industry. The business had strictly focused on replacing local citizens’ cars due to repairs. Later on Enterprise started to serve two additional segments, leisure & discretionally rentals and business rentals. Newly launched segments were successful; however the main focus of Enterprise continued to be the initial business stream – the Replacement Rentals. This business section takes up 78% of Enterprise’s resources, which enables the company to capture approximately 55% of the US replacement rentals market share. Yet, the total replacement Rent-A-Car

Over the years I have had managers say that I am losing best employees. The fact of the matter is employees do not leave their jobs, they leave their managers. The problem in most businesses over work their employees( businessinsider.com). Overworking employees has shown to be the opposite of productive. Employees who work 45-55 hours in a week tend to be drained and mentally exhausted. Overworking employees and not giving them a raise or even a promotion are the best ways to lead good employees out the door. After speaking with past workers of Hertz they all agreed that being overworked is the main cause of them leaving. That and false hope of getting promoted. Hertz cross train their incoming workers to make sure they are knowledgeable of the business and can operate a branch. Companies like this fail to realize that rewarding employees goes along way. Rewarding does not have to be the only way, public recognition goes a long way as well. Just even rewarding those employees who make sales or get get outstanding feedback from customer surveys. Even if the reward is a simple Thank You, this can prevent good employees from walking out the
In 2008, the American population saw a large wave of home foreclosures during the Great Recession that created an economic crisis that displaced millions of homeowners. Unable to recuperate from the terrible financial situation, these persons found comfort within the rental property industry. These previous owners, unable to purchase new homes, began renting property and living as tenants, contributing to the 4% growth record of the rental industry as published in a study that was conducted by Harvard University. With the growth of this industry, rental property owners began to devote more of their time to the development and marketing of their rental properties. These owners began providing lower rates for their properties, and they began making improvements that allowed them to increase the net profit that they received. With the continual “boom” of the industry and the popularity that it is receiving due to young adults needing places the live, rental property owners need an effective program that allows them to oversee their properties and communicate with their tenants.

In working in the work force I have come up close and personal with situations with customers that need to be resolved in a professional way. Situations with customers handled properly and resolved hastily leads customers with a good feeling ;so that they will continue to come to your area of business. For example, when I was working at Hobby Lobby I became upon a very distraught and upset customer. The Customer wanted to make a return on merchandise but was missing her receipt. The customer began to yell at me and said that she just wanted to easily make the return and go on with their day. The person was unhappy because the product did work the way she expected it to for her project. I looked at the merchandise and it was worth more than twenty dollars meaning without the receipt the customer had only two options. One was exchange the product for a product that wasn’t defective like this one, or I could give the person store credit.

Over the summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Management Trainee Intern at Enterprise Rent-A-Car at the home-city branch located in Kona. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a management career, where each employee can advance from within. The branch office is on the second floor of the building and the rental cars are lined up on the ground floor, which made it easier for employees and customers to window shop from inside. Inside the office has tons of space for customers to rest and place their luggage(s), and the desks were hidden from sight behind a divider. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a family business owned by the Taylor family. The Taylor family created a business that brought opportunity for all people, to build and grow a career, create friendships and leadership skills, and most importantly to have fun.
The first transferable key I chose is Analyze data or facts. The reason i chose this is, because it relates to the history of my work place. I am currently working at a car rental company located at Pearson airport called National-Alamo. Our responsibility as a team at work is to get the cars out cleaned, gassed and up and running in a specific time. It is important to our company to get the car out to our customer in the best quality. The reason why this transferable skill is important to our work place is because we need to analyze the amount of cars being sent to rent each hour so we could match our reservation quote. The data collected of how many cars we have left is very important to us because those are the cars that will start off
The questions are simple? Are Uber drivers considered employees and should they receive the same benefits and perks as the Uber deemed employees? What is the difference between being a contractor and an employee? And why are some many people protesting and debating the issue?
When it comes to earning a living, its hard and for so many times, your attempts tend to say ‘In your face’ to you. One thing I’ve learnt is not to be let down by disappointments. So in my search of jobs, I landed on one which I had never heard about before. It was a job to monitor chats on a social media site.
