World Trade Center
The movie World Trade Center is about the second terrorist attack on the World Trade Center which occurred September 11, 2001. Over three thousand lives were lost along with first responders (fire, police, EMS, medical, military, etc.). The two tallest buildings, known as the twin towers and several other buildings were completely destroyed. This would become the second of its kind of attack in America’s history. The first occurred “Friday, February 26, 1993, when Middle Eastern terrorism had arrived on American soil—with a bang”

The helicopters brought in to survey the area appeared to be lacking in their ability to transfer information to the ground. Emergency Management Systems personnel were stationed very near towers but also seemed ill prepared for this type of catastrophe. Had they all been connected and communicating many lives could have been saved (Jim Dwyer, 2007). A bus load of port authority police officers (without any rescue equipment) loaded into a van driven by Sergeant John McLoughlin and headed to the North Tower. Bits and pieces of information were coming in from friends and relatives. Reports about attacks elsewhere were unclear such as one which indicated “a missile had hit the Pentagon and Israel had been nuked off the planet.” For all they knew, the site could have been radioactive.
Sadly, those who died never realized that Israel was not involved and that the Pentagon had also been struck by a plane, and other flights were involved. The attack on the World Trade Center affected many other cities than just New York. Israel and other countries have prepared their citizens, military and rescue workers with safe houses, masks and other ways to protect in case of a nuclear attack. Step 4 - Equip personnel and country with nuclear fall out protection training.
`This film was based on the lives of two port authority officers John McLoughlin, played by Nicolas Cage and Will Jimeno, played by Michael Peña. They
A total of 19 men, split up in three groups of five and one group of four, passed all airport security checkpoints and boarded four airplanes. They all had knifes of some kind, attacked the cockpit about 30-45 min into the flight, threatened the passengers with fake bombs, and hijacked the plane with the intent on ramming them into important American locations. One hit the North Twin Tower of the World Trade Center, one hit the South Twin Tower of the World Trade Center, another hit the Pentagon, while the last never made it to its destination in Washington D.C., it crashed into a field 20 min from there. The response to the hit of the towers was immediate. Every kind emergency agency rushed to help. However, since they didn’t have standardized procedures on how to deal with something like this and there was no universal or shared radio system, it was utter chaos. Departments struggled to communicate with each other which complicated the task of relaying important information. The New York Times tells us, “Numerous firefighters, police officers and other rescue workers who responded to the initial disaster in Lower Manhattan were killed or injured when the buildings collapsed. Hundreds were treated for cuts, broken bones, burns and smoke inhalation.” (Schmemann,
Coincidentally, the three buildings that suffered damages that day housed some very important people. At the time of the attacks, there were almost eighteen thousand individuals in the World Trade Center alone (9/11 By The Numbers). The twin towers were expected to have fifteen thousand people clock in around ten thirty am. In all, a total of thirty three thousand people were put in harm's way on that devastating day. Al-Qaeda was obsessed with producing mass casualties with their impending outbreaks. This desire routed them away from lower civilian population dense areas and were most interested in areas like the White House or the Statue of Liberty. It was more attractive for Al-Qaeda to attack venues with very high civilian populations,
The mayor was criticized about his decision in 1997 to place “his state-of-the-art emergency command center at 7 World Trade Center, critics warned that it was too close to a terror target. On Sept. 11, that building collapsed. Had the center been placed in Brooklyn, as a mayoral aide had suggested, the cameras might not have made a legend of a dust-shrouded mayor” (Powell, 2007). Also the communication issues may had been known about and not resolved prior to the emergency.
As I followed the other firefighters, captain said, "No Kennedy, you have to stay here." At first, I was enraged at him for saying that to me, but if he didn't make me stay, I would've died that day. All 87 of the NYFD firefighters went inside that building, and never came out. Who would be so cruel to do this, I thought. Suddenly, the news reporters stated, "4 planes have been hijacked by Arabs, and they have been planning to crash them into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and The White House.
It was a normal day in New York City, with business workers rushing into the World Trade Center. They thought it was going to be like any other day in the office but they were wrong. These office workers were in for the biggest surprise of their life. Planes flown by hijackers crashed into both the Twin Towers, and the Pentagon was hit by a plane as well. Now there is a memorial in New York where the bases of the towers were honoring the people who died that day.
On February 26, 1993 at 12:18 pm in New York City, the first call was received at the Central Office from a street alarm box at the corner of West and Liberty Streets. The call was reporting a possible transformer vault (or manhole) explosion on West Street near the World Trade Center. As manhole explosions are common in wet whether, there was no hint of a major catastrophe until the phones never ceased to ring after aid had arrived to the site. Numerous phone calls continued, now reporting smoke in the towers of the Trade Center as far up as the 33rd floor within the first three minutes of the explosion (http://members.aol.com/fd347/wtc.htm). The ceiling then collapsed in the train station, which
A group of hijackers took control over four commercial jets flying out of the airport of the US. Two aircraft directed towards the direction of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York. All evidence that was found led to a radical Sunni Islamist group al-Qaeda being the culprit of 9/11. The attack represented a symbol; US’s power and influence collapsing like the Twin Towers, both having 110 floors collapsing causing extensive damaged to the area which surrounds them. Various other buildings were also destroyed in the wreckage of these towers. The total count of lives lost during 9/11 was close to approximately 3000 inclusive of the 19 who hijacked the plane. It was a record of lives loss based on the terrorist incident on US soil. The destruction of these two towers transformed the perspectives of the US forever, significant effect on world economic markets and confidence in the US immediately decreased. George W. Bush noted the horrific events of the attack as “evil, despicable acts of terror” (BBC 2001), causing fear amongst the people of the world leading to the change, in the face of terrorism
At the other side of town the police headquarters was also under water. All switchboards
The attacks were the four airplanes crashing and destroying the most famous towers in New York City, The twin towers. This Tragedy caused about 3,000 people’s deaths. Citizens were first aware of the attacks
The World Trade Center (WTC) represented American pride and influnce. The twin towers stood 1,352 feet with 110 stories. It was finished in 1971. The morning of September 11 no one knew that four flights would be hijacked to take American lives and using two of them to bring down the World Trade Center. Yes there had been warnings that an aviation attack would happen but who knew when it would happen and how would it have been prevented. Flight 11 American Airlines (AA) hit the North Tower around 8:46 am between the
The World Trade Center Attack as labeled as one of the worst disaster in American history. The vagueness of whom to charge for the tragedy worsens the casted gloom of that day. Four commercial jetliners destroyed the world-famous Twin Towers shed with bloods and thousands of dead bodies. The whole nation was shocked and in chaos; every move held crucially, especially by the media for the dissemination of information.
After the 9/11 attack, many agencies didn 't know what to do with the situation of the
A man clicks on the radio station in his car. He is miles away from his home in Chicago, driving to work in Evanston. His wife and newborn baby still in bed as it is early in the morning. There is a sound of terror in each of the reporters voices, he knows something is wrong. Finally Fox News reveals what is going on. Panic surges through his veins. He picks up his cell phone, his hands trembling. No answer at his house. He tries to call again, and again, and again, still no answer. He thinks to himself that his family will be okay, but The Sears Tower is not yet an
The attack on the Twin Towers in New York City on September 11th, 2001 is one of the most, if not the most well-known terrorist attack to happen on United States soil.
