World War 1 Alliance Causes

World War I did not appear out of thin air. Several things including the alliances that were formed, the pent up hostility, and the assassination of the archduke Ferdinand caused World War I. The alliances that were formed were very crucial and key in causing the war, although many counties claimed them to be defensive in nature. Secondly, the pent up hostility from preceding the war was also equally if not more crucial in causing the war. Finally, the assassination of the archduke Ferdinand was the biggest cause for World War I. While there were many things that caused World War I it seems that the forming of alliances got the ball rolling.

The cause of World War 1 was in fact a mixture of reasons. The systems of Alliances, Imperialism and Nationalism were all equally responsible for starting the Great War. World War 1 began in 1914 and finished in 1918, it was a gruesome war that killed almost eight million people and left many without limbs. The events of World war 1 were clearly far too complex to be attributed to one cause. It was a combination of factors that were brought together to create an environment mandatory to achieve war on a global scale. Alliances were only one of the causes responsible for World War 1 and there are many viable reasons for that.

World War 1, also known as “The Great War” occurred due to many causes. It was the result of aggression towards other countries. Rising nationalism of European nations, economic and imperial completion, and fear of the war prompted alliances and increase of armed forces. This created tension contributing to the outbreak of war. But it was assassination in Sarajevo that triggered World War 1.

With many factors leading to the origin of WWI, alliances contributed the most. This is because alliances dragged different countries into the war due to a binding agreement. As Serbia pulled in Russia and Austria-Hungary had Germany’s support, causing a domino effect with other allies. This means that when two countries are having a disagreement, then many other countries are having a disagreement with one another, due to their alliance. Starting with a conflict of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and wife Sofia of Austria Hungary, done by a Serbian civilian, created negative sparks between the two countries of Austria Hungary and Serbia. Although this conflict had been just between the two countries, it hauled over their alliances in need of support.

In the early 1900s world war 1 started. WW1 was a chaotic time for the people living in these war ready locations. This battle of death occurred mostly in Europe, but there were other battles in many different locations. The main causes of this war were the alliances, imperialism, and militarism. These aspects going on affected the situation dramatically. All of these causes were a huge part of the reason they had this war.

One underlying cause of World War 1 was the alliance systems. There were two major alliances. The triple entente and the triple alliance (Document A). The triple entente consisted of Russia, United Kingdom, and France. The triple alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and italy. Alliances were quick to support their allies (Document B). There was a lot of reasons World War 1 commenced imperialism, assassination, nationalism, alliances, and militarism are a few of WW1’s causes. On June 28th, 1914 archduke of Austria-Hungary and his wife were on their way home from an event when their driver took a wrong turn and Blackhand member Gavrilo Princip just happened to be in the alleyway where they stopped to turn around. Gavrilo Princip quickly pulled out his gun and shot both Archduke and his wife. This Assassination caused Serbia and Austria-Hungary to declare war which lead to WW1. Militarism is the belief or desire of a government of people that I country should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interests. Militarism denoted a rise in military expenditure, an increase in military and naval forces, more influence of the military men upon the policies of the civilian government, and a preference for force as a solution to problems. This caused the war because it built up nations armies and when you have a huge army that's good you use it. Imperialism is a policy of extending another country‘s power and influence through colonization, and use of military force to create empires they exploited weaker countries. This policy of one nation dominating other countries or regions caused the war because countries wanted to be huge empires like Great Britain. There were multiple causes of world war 1. During the 20th-century Europe was enjoying a time of peace and prosperity. Europe was clueless at the fact that there were several forces working on grasping Europe into the "Great War". Those forces worked with the intention resulting in Europe giving in.

WW1 was the result of several factors such as Imperialism, Nationalism and Militarism between World Alliances of that time period.The two sides who ended up facing each other in this war because of those factors were the: Allies - United Kingdom, Russia, France, USA and Italy, while the Central Power included Ottoman Empire, Austro Hungary and Germany. At time in history most European nations already had colonies and as the years went by, the land which was still independent was fought over fiercely. Italy and Germany were new world powers and both countries wanted to expand their boundaries. England was focused on maintaining it’s already diminishing empire while Russia and Austro-Hungary were busy dividing the Balkans through force and politics. Each nation wanted to look and be stronger as a nation. Imperialism - the hunt for more land, lead to Militarism and Nationalism which helped create the war. These three factors gave birth to WW1 and played a big role in the war.

Before World War 1 began there were many conflicts between many countries, these conflicts are what eventually led to the war. Nationalism lead to World War 1 for reasons people believed they needed to fight for their country, many people who weren’t fighting wanted to support their soldiers, and many soldiers felt as if they couldn’t back out of the war. Militarism was a cause because each country was building up their weapons and ammunition, as well as building up their armies. Finally Kaiser Wilhelm II was a cause because he had a very strong hate towards Britain, he was a very aggressive leader and he wanted Germany to be the number one country. Nationalism, militarism and Kaiser Wilhelm II were the three main causes of World War 1.
