Hi my is Conor Corcoran since or topic was World War II we choose historical figure that were important in the war. Some notable and common people for the Axis were Hitler and for Allies Franklin D Roosevelt. A uncommon figure for the Axis was Maria Mandel, she is our queen because she was one of the most ruthless chief guards responsible for killing 500,000 female Jews, Gypsies, and political prisoners. Thank you so much for your time, and now I'm going to pass the mic off to Leroy to give even more details about our different pieces thanks.
World War II-- also known as The Holocaust / The Genocide -- was the world 's second 'Great War '. World War II was much more larger in scale and more longer in duration. World War I had only lasted for four years, while World War II had lasted for six years. I find it quite interesting that contrary to popular belief; the United States did not enter World War II until 2 years after the genesis of the conflict. It was only in 1941, when the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor that the United States had entered the war. World War II started in 1939 due to Germany performing an unprovoked attack on Poland. Surprisingly, only a few months later after Germany invaded Poland; the whole European continent was at war. In 1939, the United States was not ready to go to war. In the early 20th century, the United States Army only ranked 39th in the world. Many Americans believed that the United States could not handle another global conflict right after the Great Depression. Although the United States was not 'officially ' part of the war at that time, that did not stop the United States from becoming 'unofficially ' involved.
World War II was a historical event for America. It helped changed and shaped the world into what it is today. Some good, some bad. Things I am going to talk about today are the reasons why World War II happened in the first place. There are many reasons but the few I chose are anger over the Versailles Treaty, The Great Depression, and the goals of Hitler and the Nazi Party. I will explain in great detail how all of these caused World War II.
Gregory “Pappy” Boyington is arguably one of the most influential leaders of World War II. Boyington, the commander of the famed “Black Sheep Squadron,” often found himself disrespected and overlooked by his superiors early in his career. Due to the myths surrounding Boyington and his portrayal as a drunken hooligan in the famed television series Baa Baa Black Sheep, most people are unaware of the traits that made Boyington a wildly successful military leader. It was not until he found his home in the Marine Corps with a group of misfits that his career began to blossom. Though Pappy Boyington was an unorthodox leader, his leadership, development of tactics, and commitment to his men are what led to the Pacific’s most successful air campaign of World War II.
In World War 2, there were many significant events. Many had an effect on other events. The top 3 most significant events in World War 2 would be Pearl Harbor, D-Day and Operation Barbarossa. Each one is important and had a huge role and effect in World War 2. However, in my opinion all were significant.
World War II, intensified tensions between two of the strongest countries in the 1940s, the United States of America and Japan. On December 7,1941, Japanese planes and submarines attacked the American Naval base at pearl harbor, one of America’s largest bases and the largest base in the Pacific Ocean. The attack caused serious damage to the base, taking out America’s strongest battleships, killing thousands of people, and destroying hundreds of planes. America officially enters World War II. The Battle of Midway was a crucial battle in a long line of other battles fought for dominance in the Pacific Ocean. The Battle of Midway was a turning point in World War II. It was the first decisive American victory and provided a morale boost for American troops after the Pearl Harbor attack.
In December 1943, the head of staff of the Allies picked American General Dwight D. Eisenhower as incomparable administrator for the Allies in Europe. English General, Sir Frederick Morgan, added to various arrangements for the Allies, most uncommon was Operation Overlord, a full-scale intrusion of France over the English Channel. This was the codename for the most mysterious summon in the war. The initial plan was to cross the English Channel, land in France and push on into Germany. The attack was set for the spring of 1944. English and American troops, as of now assembling in England for the attack, numbered more than 50 divisions (more than 150,000 troops), with a huge number of
After World War I legacy the Great Depression brought isolationism. The best work produced by President Roosevelt was the Four Freedoms; freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. President Roosevelt was the leader of the Allies, he used this statement as part of his Allies aim. The Soviet Union joined the Allies after being invaded by Germany. Millions of art were sold and reprinted as it publicizes the Four Freedom in 1943. In 1940s after tension between the United States and Japan over East Asia, on December 7, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. There was no warning of this attack happening as a result United States declared war on Japan. The Good neighbors policy was, brought into place by President Roosevelt and Hoover in 1930s. This was a policy that would help the relationship between Latin American countries and the Unites States. The good neighbors policy would not only help the Latin countries but also the United States with trade and military.
While many people know about the Depression and also World War II, most do not know how it became known as “the Greatest Generation”. Although much of this time negatively affected individuals living during this period, not only did the experiences between classes differ greatly, but so did the experiences of those who served in the Spanish Civil War, and also within different communities.
World War II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945, is considered the largest armed conflict in human history. This war was fought over six different continents, in every ocean, and ultimately resulted in fifty million military and civilian deaths; including the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. Within the course of the seven-year span of fighting in the war, two decisive battles changed the tide of the war in each theater: The D-Day landings and the Battle of Midway. The invasion of Normandy occurred in the Atlantic theater whereas the Battle of Midway took place in the Pacific Theater of the war. Although these battles happened in different theaters of the war, the Allied victories sent both the Japanese and the Germans marching
1. Two major causes of World War II included when Hitler and his Nazi party took over Germany politically in 1933, and Japanese militarism.
Before World War II began, Hitler had already began to spread his ideology of cleansing the German state of Jews and other peoples deemed unwanted by the Nazis. After World War I, nearly two million German men had been killed and political leaders and doctors were concerned about the falling birth rate of the population (Finley-Croswhite, 2014, slide 6; In this paper I am using APA style). Scientists and political leaders were concerned about the economic state of Germany and believed that biological interference, or racial hygiene, was the answer to their country’s worsening population issue. The study of eugenics had begun in the late 19th century (Finley-Croswhite, 2014, slide 3). By the 1930s eugenicists encouraged woman they considered to be genetically healthy to produce children while they discouraged women they considered racially inferior from having children. Eventually, laws were enforced that led to the mass sterilization of all racially inferior people. (Finley-Croswhite, 2014, slide 4). A primary goal of Hitler’s regime was to cleanse Germany of unfit, diseased peoples and build a population of strong, healthy Aryans. In order to accomplish this goal, Hitler had to focus a large portion of his efforts on Germans, and soon after, primarily Jewish men and women. The purpose of this paper is to explore the treatment of Jewish women by the Nazis during the Holocaust with regard to sterilization, pregnancy, and sexual abuse, and to identify the unethical
World War II was one of the most horrific and catastrophic conflict periods in the history of humankind. Although much of World War II is remembered as being that and having negative outcomes, it definitely had some positive ones too. One of them and the most important of all of them was the encounter with new modern advanced technology, warfare, and strategies. This new advanced technology would affect the type of warfare that was fought, which lead to the triumph of one side over the other. Generals had to have smart tactical strategies in order to take the enemy by surprise and win the battle. World War II left Europe in ruins a total disaster that was primarily caused by the many technological advances during this war.
“A date which will live in infamy” occurred seventy-three years ago on December 7th [1]. An unsuspecting United States naval base located in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii housed the U.S. Pacific Fleet and was attacked by 353 Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes [2]. The destruction of that unforgettable day included eight battleships, three cruisers, three destroyers, 188 aircrafts, 2,403 American deaths, and 1,178 wounded [3]. The “sleeping giant” was awoken, war was declared, and America was radically altered from that day forward [4].
World War II was fought between two powers; the axis and the allied powers. The axis powers consisted of Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria while the allied powers consisted of U.S., Britain, France, USSR, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Yugoslavia. While the United States Armed Forces were deployed in other parts of the world, the ones back home were facing the struggles of a war they had no choice but to be involved in. This war was a war that lasted for six years and tallied many casualties. The hard fought war was not fought for any reason, though. World War II was a pivotal point in the 1900’s for, not only states’ rights, but also human rights. The aftermath of the war brought justice to those wronged and a bright future to look ahead to.
World War II, such a tragic event. It left many people homeless and dead. Many people wonder what happened, before the war, during the war, life after the war, and lastly, current foreign affairs? On one side of the world was the Great Depression and on the other side the rise of Hitler was beginning.
