World war one started in Europe on the 28th July 1914 and ended four years later 11th November 1918. World war one was the first big war of the 20th century Over 20 million was left wounded and 17 million left to die. It all started on the 28th June 1914 with the assassination of heir to the Austrian Archduke Franz Fendinad throne by a Serbian nationalist. Although the murder of the Austrian Archduke started the war it had much deeper roots. Germany had become a very powerful nation in Europe it army became bigger and mightier it always had close relation with Austria. Later on, other countries joined these so-called Central powers on the other hand Russia, France and Great Britain supported Serbia these nations became the triple entente.

However on the 28th June 1914 there was an assassination of the Austrian heir- Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s, in his visit in Sara Jevo, Serbia. It was believed that the fighting would be over quickly but sadly the war lasted 4 years (from August 1st, 1914 to November 11th, 1918. It soon became clear that the fighting would continue for a long time and that it would result in massive casualties. Although the United States attempted to avoid involvement in the war. Finally by 1917 they joined the Allied Powers.

In the summer of 1914 a shot rang out amongst the crowd. This shot was a bullet aimed for the Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. Who knew when Garvilo Princip shot the gun that was aimed towards the Archduke that he would change the course of history. Therefore, he set in motion a change of events that started World War I. Nevertheless, the course of the world had changed, the start of one of the most destructive times in the world was about to begin. How could this had been stopped? I will explain that in the next few paragraphs.

One would lead to the other and we were left with a mess of each nation at war with each other, making up the World War.

Francis’ assassin led Europe’s stability to collapse. Europe desired to build empires and form new alliances. The Allies were the victors. There is an estimation of 10 million military soldiers that died and 7 million civilian deaths. 21 million were wounded and nearly 8 million either went missing or were imprisoned.
