World War Z (Forster, 2013) is a movie about a world transformed by a sudden zombie apocalypse. The plot focuses on the main character, Gerry, who’s life and family’s lives are saved by the fact that he used to be employed by the UN, and with the world now falling apart, the UN asking for his assistance in finding “the cure”. In order to keep his family safe and away from the chaos, the UN holds onto them while Gerry travels worldwide with many others to try and find an answer to keeping the public as safe as possible. World War Z (Forster, 2013) reflects our fears of death in many aspects of the film. One example of this is that in the end, we all become animals. People are shooting at each other and pushing others into dangers way to save themselves or their family. There is a quick realization that in order to survive in this new world, you must not only be smart, but be willing to kill; which is one of the reasons that this film, and so many others, are so popular. People no longer have a real purpose in their ‘normal’ life, and in many ways, are restricted by the government regulated rules that are put in place to keep us safe. The people who used to have boring office jobs, where day in and day out was nothing but a boring routine with no real purpose or drive, are suddenly thrust into a world with no rules. They can do as they please now with no restrictions and suddenly they have a purpose again: to survive. One of the first most memorable scenes in the film was where Gerry had shot a man attacking his wife in a pharmacy, and a police officer runs up after the shot to not arrest Gerry, but instead start packing baby food into a bag. Once those who in charge no longer take others safety into concern, the world has truly gone to a darker place. People crave to be in a world where every decision matters, and this post-apocalyptic world has become one that no one
