My desire to be an osteopathic physician came after attending an OMM session during my gap years as a research fellow at the NIH. This experience contributed to my interest in osteopathic medicine, as I was intrigued by the musculoskeletal manipulation techniques, and deeply appreciated the hands-on, holistic approach to patient care. I feel strongly that training as an osteopath, will prove invaluable in my career as I work deliver quality treatment to underserved communities.
Due to my advertising background and my multimedia degree, I am experienced with the use of Adobe Suite PC or Mac base and proficient in other equivalent software. It is necessary to be attentive to format requirements when producing a variety of advertising and marketing material. Examples of these has included graphic tutorials, PowerPoints to for GCSE work all supported by work sheets. Designed and built a variety of websites, sustaining their contents. Produce artwork for exhibition panels and literature to showcase departments. Take photographs and film of events to produce movies. Create a collection of material to be shown on the in-school TV’s to encourage enrichment activities.
The first time I’ve ever visited Cheney and laid eyes on EWU, I was about 15 years old. I was on a field trip from Jenkins High School, located in Chewelah, WA. I remembered being floored by EWU’s theatre arts program, the vastness of the campus, and diversity of the student body. I craved to be apart of it. However, I felt that it was all beyond my ability at that point in my life.

First and foremost - my life is dedicated to the service of others. Through my time serving as Parkwood Beta President and the State President of the North Carolina Beta Club, I have understood the importance of a servant’s heart. I have had the honor of being Student Body President and Class President here Parkwood, and during my tenure I provided vital assistance and planning to events that included, Spring Fling, Winterfest, Powderpuff, Teacher Appreciation Week, dances, pep rallies; and, simple facilitation and leadership within the PWHS Student Council at large. Moreover, I have had the great opportunity of serving on the Executive Board of the PTSO for a few years now and served as the student liaison between the PTSO and the school. I am applying for the WTIS: Public Health, Community, and Culture in Cuba because I desire an integrating experience that incorporates my passions of medicine, service, and travel. As a kinesiology major with a dream of working in the healthcare industry, I am interested in gaining a hands-on experience in a drastically different healthcare system from my own. I have been fortunate to have previously visited Eldoret, Kenya, where I was exposed to the AMPATH-Kenya Indiana University Medical School and Hospital, rural village health care, and a day shelter for the street children of Eldoret. The life-changing experience gave me awareness on the lack of health care in third world countries, but most importantly sparked my interest in medicine.
Being a nurse not only means compassion, dedication, and intelligence, but the profession also requires endurance, personal sacrifice, and the need for continuous education. I have learned that nurses are some of the most caring and selfless people that anyone will ever meet. Nurses are more than willing to complete challenging tasks and care for others in a way that the majority of people are unwilling to. I am driven to bring all of these qualities into my role as a future nurse practitioner, which is why I am committed to pursuing my Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP).
Professional Goals: I will become a registered dietitian by completing the MS-MPH dual program, along with the Dietetic Internship Program. Thereafter, I will advance to become a Lactation Consultant. After obtaining all certifications, my desire is to have a position at a WIC Clinic. As a WIC Dietitian/Nutritionist, I will have the opportunity to work with low income, minorities, pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as infants and children who may be nutritionally at risk by providing health through nutrition education. Experiencing hardships and my resilience to overcome them is the main reason I chose to pursue a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) degree. My familiarity with asking for resources, as a former foster youth, a number of my interactions involved social workers. I utilized resources as a transition aged youth; and I believe it was those same resources that kept me focused on my future and school. I became homeless at eighteen years of age and it was transitional housing, through The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) that gave me hope and direction.
My story prior to CSP has so many events and memories involved with it. I went to Delano High School, which is a small town around the Plymouth area. I was a student athlete that loved to be involved in activities. I was a three sport athlete through my Sophomore year and then dropped Volleyball so I could take a heavier class load. I took College in the Schools classes to get credits for college starting my Junior year. The teachers that taught our CIS classes were the best ones and helped all of us learn how to study which will help me here at CSP. Some of my friends were there to support with everything I had going on and we formed really good study groups. My friends were also their to keep my head up and push through things that I couldn’t do without their support. My parents have been my best role models and I still continue to look up to them and listen to what they have to say. They were always very supportive with whatever I wanted to do and gave me advice when I needed it.
Information security has always been my passion. I got my associates of applied science in information security at the community college of baltimore. I am currently working my bachelors in computer information systems with a track in computer forensics. The LPT is one of the penetration related certificates I plan on getting. I also plan on getting the OSCP and the GWAPT. I really would really like to take the LPT not only to gain a certificate that would advance my career, but also for the opportunity to test my penetration skills.

I wish to gain experience in and potentially pursue Bioengineering because it incorporates a multitude of my interests. As two of my strongest areas, math and biology, are tied together, they touch on my ultimate passion: helping others. For example, this collegiate path could lead to me aiding in the developments of prosthetics. Therefore, I’d help improve the lives of my patients by working with them directly and assisting them as they progress.
My professional goals are to pursue a Ph.D and conduct research in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. I am interested in pursuing research in this field because of the implications this research has on curing diseases and developing treatments for currently unmet medical needs. I want to participate in this REU at WPI because of the high caliber of mentors to teach and inspire me, and the cutting edge research this program has to offer. The hands-on research experience this program has will provide me invaluable research and presentation experience that will help prepare me as I apply for graduate school and start my research career. In addition, the training in mentoring and outreach program with middle-school students
