As my last class came to an end on that Thursday I could feel the excitement growing in me; spring break was starting! As I walked briskly to my truck I could feel a huge smile growing across my face. In less than twenty four hours I’d be on the road to granny and gripes in Louisiana with my best friend and I couldn’t be more excited! I had never really been out of Missouri unless it was military related and even then we didn’t get to adventure like I had always wanted to do. I’ve always loved driving and seeing new things in Missouri but now I get to drive through different states and see all of the beautiful scenery in Arkansas and Louisiana. Jackie and I left around 3 O’clock Friday afternoon after I got off of work at McDonalds it was about 7 O’clock when we finally made it into Arkansas, so it was getting dark we were in a very unfamiliar area and it was starting to get scary. Winding through the hills of Arkansas in the dark is probably one of the scariest things I’ve had to do; you never know what you’re going to see going around a curve or over a hill. After winding through the hills of Arkansas for about four hours we finally made it into Louisiana! We drove for about three hours until we hit a closed road in Jonesboro, so we took then took another route and got hit again with another road closure! There had been some rain, but I didn’t think Louisiana flooded this easily! There was no safe way to Lafayette, we were stuck in Jonesboro in the middle of the night …show more content…
We took Jackie's uncle to the airport and went to see her aunt Brenda. For lunch we stopped at a little shack and got boudin balls, the first day was just trying new foods that I’d never heard of, but they were absolutely amazing! Jackie’s grandma made crawfish fettuccine for dinner and gripe gave us some homemade wine and we called it a day and went to bed
It was August of 1829 in Mississippi. Men were harvesting corn and beans. The smell of the Choctaw own acorn bread filled the air. All the children were prancing about, playing with friends, shooting squirrels with their little toy bows, and wrestling for the last bite of jerky. All but one child. That lonely little boy’s name was Koi. Koi never got to play with the other Choctaw boys, as he had to prepare to become chief.
When we got to my grandparent’s house, my dad’s side of the family was already there, and we had eggs for breakfast, and hamburgers for lunch. Then we played yard games and a bounce house. At the end of the day we had a bonfire, roasted marshmallows and made s’mores.
The year of 2017 flew by. Life threw me several new experiences and friendships. In the Spring, I completed my last semester of high school and chose not to do track so I could embrace the time leading up to graduation. I was a Senior Mentor for an awesome group of freshman and spent a lot of my free time practicing Indian Dance for Rock Bridge’s Global Village and running. I experienced True False Film Festival for the first time with my mom and gave me new insight to poverty and community. We followed that up with the Wild and Scenic Film Festival which I also highly recommend. For Spring Break, the Baumer family drove to Louisiana and spent most of our time canoeing the Bayou and relaxing at the beach. (Josh and I chased an alligator with
My grandma made us all lunch. After we ate we sat in the living room, watching a movie. After about 15 minutes of arguing on the genre of movie we finally decided on a horror called Infection. A movie I have been wanting to see.
It was an overall great experience! - We played video games, ate many delicious pieces of pizza, drank chocolate milk without pinkies’ up - because we’re fancy! And eventually, we finally sat down and watched Netflix - more specifically, Scary Movie - and scarred Sarah Grace for life!
Two Rivers is a campground not too far from Sartell, I have been there countless times throughout my childhood. It is called two Rivers because the Mississippi River and the Platte River connect at a bay that surrounds the entire campground. The Platte River is much smaller than the Mississippi, which makes it popular to tub on, like a giant lazy river at a water park. Tubing on the River is one of the most popular activities, with that you can also canoe and kayak. Most years the water in low and slow with some rapids, but this year it was particularly fast.
Kali was out exploring Omaha Nebraska when she got lost. She wasn't even sure what was so special about Omaha, she was pretty sure it was just a random stop on their trip. She would probably never come back here so she may as well see what was on offer. She'd seen the Rose Theatre and the children's science museum but she'd somehow ended up in a residential area and she was utterly turned around and completely lost, on top of that her phone battery had died. She turned down one street and then another in a U-turn, she'd probably gone about half a block when she heard footsteps behind her, thinking nothing of it she kept walking.
Delicious. I thought. The saltiness still lingered in my mouth. I went outside to the living room to watch the news. On the news it said “Hello this is Ava Rutter reporting live in South Side of Mississippi, where we are watching our world fall apart with the things that we do in the bathroom. And it is big and brown and sometimes different colors if you have Diarrhea.” But usually I get extremely tired of watching the news.
On the way to the store Amy and I took lots of selfies. We had a blast then we got out of the car and went into the store. We got lots of food including things for the beach. We spent about an hour in the grocery store. While driving home we stopped to get ice-cream, which was amazing. Amy ended up dropping her ice-cream, but we went back and got her a new one.
When I began my search for a summer creative writing workshop, I was hopeful. While some descriptions enticed me, the prices were enough to stay me. I had set my sights on Iowa Young Writers’ Studio and I was ready for the challenge which began with me applying for a scholarship within my school. I filled out the application, turned it into the guidance office for submission, and then waited, and waited, and waited. I gathered all the requirements to apply to the actual Studio. I hit the submit button with auspicious thoughts about getting to leave the state for two weeks.
It was the first meal that I have ever eaten with my family and probably the best one ever. We talked the whole time, mainly about how they thought that they were hallucinating because they kept seeing images of me and not knowing if they were real or not. We also talked about how when I was younger, they put me up for adoption. But the adoption agency couldn’t find me a home, so they just took me back to my parents, but they didn’t realize I was there. I’ve never had a longer conversation,
a great time, play with our food and laugh about our day. Soon after it was gaming time, I spent a
When we were finished, we went out with my in-laws and enjoyed coffee and pie and reminisced on what we
Downstairs we picked up some breakfast that the hotel provided, checked out, and then got back on the road headed to Tennessee. It wasn’t long until we crossed the border into the Volunteer State, and the first big city we stopped in was Nashville. We parked in a garage and walked around for a couple hours, taking everything in. stores lined Main Street, filled with cowboy boots and souvenirs that could draw anybody’s attention. Knowing that we were on a tight schedule, we bought a few souvenirs then were on our way to the last stop of the day. We know found ourselves in the boondocks of Lebanon, Tennessee. I turned onto the dirt road that led to the campground we would be staying at. After taking almost twenty minutes to set up our tent, we threw our air mattress inside and were forced to blow it up on our own, since the electric pump decided to short circuit. The humidity was so heavy that I nearly passed out because of it, but we both managed to make it through the night safely with only a few bug bites.
The next day went by quick. We had some pancakes and strawberries. It was a unique breakfast. For lunch we had a picnic at the lake and then
