On paper, I may not be the best student. I know very well that I am not the brightest student that this university has come across. Nonetheless, my drive and determination is something that I am very proud of. I strive to put my all into every aspect of my education. I remember junior year of high school being the most challenging year I have ever had. I took the initiative of taking three AP level courses all in one semester. I took AP U.S. History, AP Language, and AP Statistics head on that semester. I had heard rumors about AP U.S. History being “the hardest class you will ever take in high school”. That terrified me from the moment I first entered the classroom. With the help of an amazing teacher, it became my favorite class right away. I had not heard much about AP Language, so I had no clue what …show more content…
In fact, it was the worst part of my entire year. It was by far the most challenging class I had ever taken. At one point it even brought me to tears. I was trying as hard as I could. I was working with my teacher in the mornings and in the afternoons. Yet, I was still failing tests and quizzes. I remember taking this one quiz three times before I finally got a grade that I deemed acceptable. It was the first time I had ever felt inadequate in the classroom. I felt like my brain did not work anymore. It was a difficult time for me. I had always excelled in honors courses, and I was doing well in my other AP classes. It was this one class that could not seem to figure out. I did not understand why my performance was so poor. Granted, the whole class struggled with this course. But, they too started to make small improvements. I had managed to maintain between a D and an F throughout the course of the semester. This was disappointing because I wanted to do well. I did have some small victories, but it was not the kind of performance that I was proud of. I was not used to giving something my all and getting nothing in
Currently, I am the ACAT Program Coordinator/ACAT Education Officer and I manage 20 staff members over various sites. I have high level communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills. I handle complaints from people receiving care and their families by identifying the problem quickly through questioning techniques and finding a solution which is satisfactory to the clients and to the Murrumbidgee Local Health District. I received a complaint from a client who did not understand their ACAT Assessment. The client was upset and quite angry and intent on taking the matter further. Utilising my excellent communication skills, I talked the client through the assessment, taking the time to explain each step in the process. The result
Everyone who doubted me had to state that they told me not to take it but I felt accomplished that I took the hardest class provided in my high school. It was depressing that I didn’t pass the AP exam but when next year came I took AP Environmental science which was the same concept as AP World in which is all based on note taking and quizzes that relied on the notes you take from the textbook. I felt that AP World History had a major impact on this class because I was taking notes every night studying for the test. I ended up doing really well in AP Environmental science and passing the AP exam with a 4. After I took the exam I started to look back and realize how much AP World helped me succeed. Although I didn’t pass the exam for AP World I felt like all the hard work and dedication carried over to AP Environmental Science which made me realize that all those people who told me not to take the class were only trying to bring me down because it ended up helping me be a better student and leading me to be better prepared for the
When I passed my AP World History test. During my freshman year I was put into an AP class. I didn’t know what AP was, I didn’t know what to expect. I was able to handle my honors classes because it was material back in middle school. However, AP World History was strenuous and took major effort. There were multiple times where I had uncertainty of whether or not I was capable to keep going. I really felt out of place because it was a difficult class with essays, chapters to read and exams every week. Nonetheless, I never gave in, I convinced myself that the reason why my school put in roughly 90 kids, including myself, out of at least 1000, is because they saw potential in us and knew that we would be able to handle the stress of a college
What was the most challenging thing about this semester? Did you handle it well or did you let it get to you?
All three come together to persuade and audience because they appeal to the heart and the mind. People don’t make decisions with just one or the other, so this creates maximum persuasive effect. These
In the pamphlets “The Crisis” and “The Word and the Silence” Thomas Paine and Subcomandante Marcos formulated arguments based on the struggle between oppressive regimes and the commoners suffering it. Their purpose was to influence a justification to revolt in the common people as well as to establish how they needed to fight the oppression. The rhetorical devices used by Thomas Paine and Marcos can be compared in the sense that they both display anaphora, loaded language, and a credibility ethos to create an emotional, and inspiring tone to help their audience embrace revolt in a positive way. After coming to these conclusions, I was able to extrapolate a new insight on
“The mass of men serve the state thus, not as men mainly, but as machines with their bodies,” (65-66). Extended Metaphor of the Machine. Keeps running until friction (people/person) (counter friction, gears, ---> people.) The purpose is to have the Gov. keep working until stopped, so Stand Up!
In the story “A&P” by John Updike, the main character Sammy is portrayed as a typical young male. When the three young females enter the store, he is quickly distracted from his duties. As he watches the young girls move throughout the store, he describes each of their bodies in detail giving away his overwhelming sexual awareness. Sammy is so distracted by these “bathing beauties” that he rings up some old bat’s item twice and makes her angry. It is made quite evident that Sammy is finely attuned to each and every movement of these young ladies’ as they amble down each and every aisle throughout the store.

Throughout many of the arduous AP courses I took in high school I was pushed to my limits, but I accomplished my goals through hard work. One example of this would be my AP United States History class. This class was one of the most difficult courses I had taken, mostly due to the sheer amount of information being presented and needed to be memorized. Even though the basics of U.S. history had been taught to me in one way shape or form every school year, there was brand new information on people and important dates. At first I struggled with the work load and text, but I eventually made it through and succeeded by diving
Hi: I'm Christopher, thanks for checking out my profile. In this section I'll provide some additional information, to clarify compatibility. And if you think, feel we are companionable I look forward to conversing about your perspectives, and expectations.
I graduated high school from Ballenas Secondary in 2005, and in July travelled to Europe. I enjoyed Europe so much that I moved to Germany until August 2006. While in Germany I traveled Europe, Northern Africa, and the Mediterranean area of the middle east. While in Germany, I worked at a local bar in Regensburg (near Munich) and enjoyed learning the German language.
This year was by far the most challenging year because of the classes that I chose. AP English Language, AP US History and Algebra 2 were probably the most difficult. Particularly, Algebra 2 was the hardest because I struggled with team tests and individual tests at times which brought my grade down. However, in spite of the hardships, I managed to earn a B which I am quite satisfied with under the circumstances. However, I earned my B because I made an effort to retake tests when needed, study, and complete all of my homework. Furthermore, another class that was a bit difficult was AP English Language, mainly the essays are what labels the class as hard. Time management while writing three essays is definitely one of my weaknesses because
This school year, I wanted an academic challenge, so I signed up for AP Physics 1, a class notorious for the number of students failing. I soon learned why: every day provided new and foreign concepts taught at rapid speed, and no matter how hard I tried to understand the curriculum, I couldn’t. When we had to take mock AP exams, I scored a three out of five every single time. While that technically was passing, I left the semester with my very first B. It was a heartbreaking situation - I had never received anything less than an A my entire life and took pride in my perfect grades. This time, it seemed that there was nothing I could do to salvage them. However, I trekked past the initial disappointment and promised myself to do better the
I even signed up for counseling that same semester, which ended up helping me a lot more than I thought and I am extremely thankful for the program that I was in. Junior year came and I took AP for the very first time. Although I did have some downfalls during the year, I managed to pull through and ended both semesters with a 4.0 and I passed both of my AP tests. I was ashamed about my many failures in life, but I have also grown to accept them. Without failure, I would've never grown to be the person I am today. I would've never learned how to bounce back from difficult situations nor have the passion to achieve my dreams of becoming a teacher. I always thought that because of my past, I wouldn't be able to go to college. I always believed that I had to have perfect test scores and a high rank in my class to even be considered into a university. Now, I know that through hard work and dedication, anything is nearly possible. I don't have to be perfect to be someone in life. Out of everything that I have learned throughout the years, I have learned that failure is unavoidable, but it is not something to
