The letter grade I have given myself is a B. I believe I am a good writer, but when it comes to small details, there is improvement needed.
When writing any essay, I must be organized. When it writing an essay reviewing a book, flash cards are must. I have my quote on one side and then my explanation and transition on the other. I do this for every quote so when it is time for my rough draft to be put together, most of the work is finished; I just have to put them together as numbered. In my senior year of high school, I did an essay on Robert McMcrumb’s The Story of English. I had so many quotes that I had to pick certain ones that were the most important. In my health class, we were asked to write a story about our middle school years.
This quote is the resolution in Unbroken. After being rescued from Japan, the falling point of the book, Louie’s post-war life suffered from frequent flashbacks and nightmares and he struggled with alcoholism. He had secretly dedicated his life to killing his past tormentor, Mutushiro Watanabe, thinking it was the only way for him to move on. At one point, during one of Louie’s flashbacks, he began to choke his own child thinking it was Watanabe. His wife, Cynthia, had temporarily left him. However, after being talked into attending a sermon led by Billy Graham, he remembered his past promises to God. When Louie was lost at sea, he prayed for rain and promised that if rain was provided for him, he would dedicate his life to God. This quote
First off, I really liked your response due to the fact that I also addressed this question, and I was able to gain a different insight from your discussion board on things I did not include in my response. For instance, the way you explained how first point of view gave strength to the overall idea of history brining pride to many Chicanos not only showed great analysis, but also supported your argument regarding the character’s strong identification with his culture. You use a quote to support your answer and further analyze the quote and speak about the effect cultural heritage and history has on the person Joaquin is.
Just like how everyone has their own beliefs and morals that mean a lot to them, this quote shows how Delia believes that the Devil, God, or fate will end up punishing Sykes for all the wrong he's done. This belief helps her survive and gives her emotional strength to carry on in the unhappy union. With the variety of abusive things Sykes does, the only the only possible thing Delia could have done is give Sykes emotional support, or perhaps a hand. Though why should she do that, especially when her husband has never offered any emotional support in fifteen years of marriage. In my perspective, I a hundred percent agree with Delia and how she treats Sykes. Most people have heard the quote “treat people how you would like to be treated,” and
I am writing to express my sincere interest in a Summer Associate position at Orrick’s Sacramento office. Spending another summer as a member of the Orrick legal team would be a remarkable opportunity to continue my development as an aspiring litigator, and to build upon the knowledge that I have gained during the 2015 Summer Associate program. I am particularly interested in continuing my legal career with Orrick because of the opportunities for professional growth that the firm provides, and the overwhelmingly positive culture. I am a strong candidate for this position as a result of my academic achievements, and because I personally espouse the core values that uphold Orrick’s unique culture.
Losing something or someone that you secretly always wanted to get rid of is a lot harder than you would think. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is about two lonely men by the names of Lennie and George. These men are traveling together to their new job because of the trouble that Lennie always seems to get in. They travel together because of Lennie’s mental incapabilities. Lennie doesn’t understand and is always getting himself and George into a lot of trouble. Of Mice and Men reveals that humanity is going to be upset if they lose something important to them even if they thought they wanted it gone the entire time.
I think your rhetorical analysis is very good. I like how detailed you were and how you used something the author would say and then explained your thoughts on it. I especially like how you used the “map it out” quote from the article and explained it by talking about building a house. I think that makes it more understandable than just saying “map it out. The only suggestion I have is why is the author a credible source? Other than that I thought you did a very good job actually analyzing the paper.
“ It’s like a soul that was much too big for her it filled her to the brim till there was no more space so it's followed out through her eyes” (lake 17)
After reading the email you sent us tonight, I’ve decided to write you this email. With what’s happening in our country right now, I just feel the need to let you know that I really appreciate you reaching out to us as well as sharing your thoughts and feelings. I have to say that it is very hard not to feel hopeless at the outcome of this election. However, I realized that no matter what, the strength and unity of those who are likeminded in loving, caring and open-minded will allow us to go through this together as a country. No matter what we can find our way back to humanity, and fight to protect the immigrants, LGBT, people of color, and the female communities. Personally, I’m still trying to make sense of it. I can’t wait for the in-class
It is a widely accepted notion that working hard will automatically pay off. This may not be difficult to believe since putting in the extra effort and studying more for a quiz usually results in a better grade and carefully looking over work before submitting it makes it more likely to get published. Countless famous individuals have vouched for this idea. Lailah Gifty Akita once said, “Without discipline, hard work, and commitment, we will never have realized our dreams.” This quote clearly states Akita’s belief that hard work and effort will translate into prosperity.
There have been very few books that I have changed in relation to the amount I 've been forced to read and in the amount that exist / I 've enjoyed a few Greek tragedies like the story of promethius or atlas, world war z, do androids dream of electric sleep, many of Isaac Asimov 's books, many of Arthur C Clarke 's books as well, some H.P. Love craft works, 1984, starship troopers, anthem and the halo book series. Not that I don 't enjoy reading, I read everyday as a matter of fact but they tend to be news articles, opinion pieces, forums, academic journals in the sciences, Wikipedia entries and so on but not any books. I 've never really enjoyed the books that were specifically assigned to be read in school and books I did enjoy I read earlier like anthem or Fahrenheit 451. Reading at school always to me seemed like an act in futility since I didn 't enjoy it since the material wasn 't very interesting to me and that I already a more than generous amount on my own on the internet but that never counted and the material certainly wasn 't covered in the computer quizzes that also gave one special reading points in elementary school. However the first interesting books that I did read I was enthralled by. Not only because of the interesting stories but also because of the various philosophical implications. I particularly enjoyed the trope of an ancient precursor civilization that is used in many scifi today, something started by Arthur C Clarke. Even today the most
The importance focussed on science is deadly has identified that value of human equality is treated poor. According to the texts I have studied these themes are common. In this essay I will be discussing the connection between these texts Unwind by Neal Shusterman, flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keys, Divergent directed by Neal Burger and Gattaca directed by Andrew Niccole,
This alarming and passion induced quote from Dr. Wendy Woods, represents not only the situation in 1998 but todays mindset as well. While I do not necessarily believe our profession with be “off the radar” I do understand the potential reduction or devalue of OT’s who are not able to verbalize or demonstrate their effectiveness. Although using purposeful activities that leave patients questioning their effectiveness is disappointing, performing meaningful occupations beyond basic activities of daily living (BADL’s) is challenging and often unrealistic in some settings. In contrast, settings that offer the opportunity to incorporate community integration activities, home care evaluations, and alternative treatments led (often used by self-employed
The quote that I have chosen is relatable in more than one way the simple way is that I chose this quote to be my senior quote. But the real reason that it is so relatable to me is because I was raised believing you can be should whatever you want and the belief that you should be different from everyone else so I've lived by this rules set by my parents but I feel like because of these rules I feel as if i turned out so different that no one will understand me anymore so when I heard this quote it made me think like does anyone understand me anymore or am I to far out and isolated from everyone there is no one else like me so was the rules that were implemented on me worth following. I make it sound bad but it's really not because I know
Every day we interact with a variety of people in different situations. Understanding the dynamic of others can help us improve these interactions. We are all different in our own ways, yet at the same time were are all very similar. To be an effective leader, it is important to understand these similarities and differences. Chapter five of Exploring Leadership by Komives describes how differences need to be understood in order to create an inclusive and empowering leadership process.
