I believe diversity should be valued due to the fact that it allows our workforce to obtain more benefits. Since all employees and people have differences, this allows us as a society to reach our goals through different types of people. This has made me realize how important diversity is in the workforce. I believe it is very important to be able to work with an individual of a different age, race or ethnic background. This allows employees to learn from others whose work styles and thoughts vary from our own. Even though their attitudes may be different it allows employees to learn how others handle situations and work with people. Diversity comes off in a positive way to me as it makes a company stronger, improves workforce quality, and allows individuals to learn about others. I believe diversity is very important as it will help people succeed and learn how to work with others since after all we are part of a global market.

I think diversity is great for teams and individuals. Most recently, when I began my current job, I went from a suburban environment to an urban environment. Working downtown allows for a more diverse workplace than in the Parma suburbs. I have learned so much from the ladies I work with now and feel like I now take in their experiences and knowledge when making decisions, either personal or work. In the beginning, there was a clash between each other but as we began to know more about and learn from each other, our team effectiveness grew and we became a well-oiled machine.

What is diversity and how do companies today utilize it in their culture? Diversity is being able to access and use a variety of tools and sources, including people. Three major companies that use diversity in their culture are; Kraft Food, Kellogg, and Procter & Gamble. All three of these companies recognize that their most important asset is their human capital. They understand that in order to save the company money every year they need to keep the turnover rate low and invest in the employees that they already have. From mentoring to talent development all three offer different training programs to all of their employees. These companies also see potential in hiring from labor pools that other companies pass up.
