Scenario 1: You are preparing fifth grade students for the Alabama Writing Assessment. So far, students are struggling. Students are just not interested in writing. How can you peak their interest and improve their writing scores? Will you incorporate Writer's workshop? Two to three paragraphs.
In Honors English (3rd and 5th), ask students to turn in yesterday’s assignment. They have a test on “A Problem” today, so they should log into their pearson accounts online and take the test. I will check their scores and put them in Skyward asap. Once their test is finished please have them read pages 78-79 in the literature book. Their assignment is to read “Like the Sun” (pgs 80-84) and “The Open Window” (pgs 85-88). They should be looking for instances of paradoxes and irony during each reading. They need to complete the critical thinking questions on pages 84 and 88.
I learned how to write several different types of essays from synthesis essays to rhetorical analysis essays. Before learning these forms of writing, the only skill that I had within me was writing basic personal narratives. However, even this type of writing was greatly improved. This class taught me the importance of transition words and sentence fluency. Towards the beginning of the year, we wrote a friendly letter so Mrs. O’Grady could get to know us on a more personal level. Looking back on this narrative, I noticed the amount of short and choppy sentences and how most of my sentences were redundant. Now, I know how to incorporate transition words appropriately into any form of text, and make to to fluctuate between simple and complex sentences. Additionally, my reading skills also improved in this class. In the past, I would only read the “surface” of a book and not go into depth. I would never account for the symbolism or historical references that were meant to be learned from reading certain books, and without that knowledge, the true message behind the book is lost. Mrs. O’Grady’s class has not only helped me expand my reading and writing skills, but it has also several other different
Throughout the progression of this course I learned countless things concerning my writing. {Simkin, M. G., Crews, J. M., & Groves, M. J. (2012). While it’s there’s a many amounts of things ‘ve learned throughout the course, there are several things I‘ve learned which include the step by step process, including the correct usage of grammar and properly proofreading my work before I turn it in. I found out i had a major problem with my punctuation usage and insufficient when it came my periods and commas. I’ve invested some time writing through grammarly and other helpful sites to improve my writing skills. I appreciate the assistance and help I received from Mrs. C
The instruction for this week’s assignment is “The area of a triangle is given by the formula Area = 1/2 * Base * Height. Using the IDLE development environment, create a Python script named t_area.py . Your script must calculate the area of a triangle and display the results of the calculation. The triangle that your script must calculate the areas for has a base of 12 inches and a height of 16 inches. IDLE has both an interactive mode and a script mode. You must use the script mode to develop your script”.
I grew up in a extremely small town outside of Birmingham, and the high school I went to is not known for its academia. If I recall right, my high school english classes assigned only 1-2 papers a year, so writing 4-5 in a semester was a completely new adventure for me. I learned many things in this course that greatly helped me improve my writing. My writing overall improved in style, flow, and basic fundamental writing thought processes, which is all the areas that are hard to learn. I started to see my style and flow had grown bland and very fact based instead of grabbing the attention of the readers. Now that I understand where my writing needs improvement, I can start focusing on those areas and fixing my papers.
When this semester first started I did not enjoy writing, the process, the grading, and just writing itself. I did not consider myself a good writer, but I knew that I was decent. Most of my papers were decent and I received average and above average grades on them. Even though I received good grades I still did not find myself a good writer. When entering this class, WRTG 120, I was afraid that it would be my hardest class and that I would have a hard time. In other words I was scared, and hearing the writing outcomes for this course did not help. I have heard of most of the outcomes but being able to write using them in writing I knew was going to be hard. In this paper I am going to talk about how I used the five out comes
With every paper I write I learn something new. Shortly after starting my first semester of college I realized I would be writing a lot of papers. From term papers in every class, to an English paper due every few weeks. In English 101 I wrote a persuasive paper. With the coming to terms assignment I really dug into someone else’s persuasive paper and dissected it piece by piece. I recalled the rules to writing a persuasive paper and compared it with the op-ed article. I really enjoyed that I was able to do that because I felt that I learned something and I was able to apply my knowledge in a later class. Going through the writing process for this paper I learned a lot. To dissect an article and pick out the project, aims, methods, and materials
This letter is meant to be a way for you to get to know me on a deeper level. You are probably using this letter not only to get to know the lives of the students you are teaching, but also to learn about the writing behaviors of your students. So for this purpose I will try to keep my letter short and interesting in order to not mess up. Before we begin I have a quick disclaimer, I am very sarcastic in everyday life so that does show in my informal writing. I am usually professional for most major papers, but for this paper you will probably see my sarcasm. Now that we have gotten that out of the way let’s start this letter.
Pryor to undertaking this activity I did not understand the basic skills required in order to make computer use easier. In the past I completed computer task based off of head knowledge and at times I would find myself completing my assignments in long periods of time. Though technology has improved I have become comfortable with old technology and have not tried to explore current updates until now. When presented with the opportunity to update my computer I would often not take advantage of the opportunity. This assignment allowed me to have a hands on experience that assisted me in learning the basic use of a computer.
Throughout middle school my classes were all the same, I showed up, learned, received my assignments, and left. There was one class that was different; it was my Language Arts class. The teacher’s name was Mrs. Lorentsen and she was not the average teacher. For example, in her class we rarely had lectures and I can remember vividly my adventures with her. We completed assignments that were called Independent Study Projects (ISPs), Common Place Books (CPBs), and completed 3D book reports. These are all different ways of presenting information through creativity and problem solving. These foreign type assignments seemed strange at first, as they are different from a traditional classroom setting. I quickly adjusted to her classroom, and learned that I enjoyed this style of learning. Throughout the class Mrs. Lorentsen and I both noticed a commonality in my writing. Putting my thoughts and opinions on paper became a struggle for me.
Moving from problems to solutions requires critical thinking skills. We confront problems in every aspect of our lives. We deal with them at school in the form of math equations, science problems, etc. We also deal with them at work in the form of finding better or new ways in performing certain aspects of our jobs. Lastly we have to deal with personal problems.
My bracelet sits under my bed, so that I will not lose it. It sits in a box with all of the other things my brother has gotten me over the past couple years. Most people find it weird that I keep the stuff my brother gave me in a box but most people do not have to worry about there brother bring a Marine.
I can remember my first writing assignment like it was yesterday. The Spring of 2011, I was a Junior at Goose Creek High School in South Carolina. In Creative Writing class with my teacher Mr. Geary, this kind of writing was a new learning experience for me. The first assignment he wanted us to complete was an essay telling our classmates about ourselves and the things that make us unique. It was a paper highlighting key moments in our lives that got us to where we are and who we are.
Advertising is a great market strategy. It helps businesses to convince others to buy their product. Color, light, sound, and other sensory images and feelings help make an advertisement memorable. So what exactly makes someone remember an ad? I will give an example of a new cell phone.
