To many people, writing is either considered a task, or an activity. There are also different types of writing for people to enjoy. In Josh Keller’s “Studies Explore Wether the Internet Makes Students Better Writer”, Keller describes how the internet has made students far better writers. He also describes how many students have described their dislike for academic writing but prefer their own personal blogging and/or journaling. This essay describes why struggling students often fail to write effectively because they find academic writing hard because they are not able to put their own thoughts and experiences into their essay. The idea of this essay was to describe the problems with students writing and the possible solutions for the problem. Keller mentions that the solution, that is not being pursued, is to combine academic writing with personal writing. He describes how many students write far better in their own personal writing and that these student’s personal writing
Teachers, parents, and friends often tell students exactly what the writing process should entail and how long it should take. However, the older I get, the more I realize that the writing process varies not only from person to person, but also from one writing project to the next. Throughout my years of life, I have written countless papers, ranging from a persuasive speech to an extensive research paper, and each project requires an altered version of my personal writing process. While each individual has his own writing process, there can be many similarities between different writing processes. Finding one’s individual writing process takes trial, error, and repetition. When an individual finally uncovers his unique writing process, better thought, work, and writing is produced.
Madi says that, instead of procrastinating, she will simply take all the information she needs a few days before an essay is due, and simply sit down and write until it is done! That’s all that is too it she claims. The value found in this strategy is that it leaves a lot of free time, and it allows to create a coherent essay. We also found that not is this Madi baker’s method, but that this is the most common method described by those we interviewed!
Over the past four months, I have made great strides as a writer. The area where I have seen the most growth is in my use of the writing process. Prior to my enrollment in this course, I would sit down and write all my papers in one sitting. This class has taught me how to lay out a plan for my papers. I have learned how to effectively brainstorm/research, draft, and revise my writings before I complete them. Also I have learned to not just stop there, instead I am now going back and reflecting on my work after I complete it. This allows me to identify where I prospered and also where my downfalls may have been. With this information, I am able to apply this to future writings of mine; lessons that will stay with me forever.
After reading The ‘Busy’ Trap by Tim Kreider I was instantly connected to it because I used to be very busy, but today I enjoy the silence of being less busy. I like the fact that Kreider says being busy is not necessary and is not something to be proud of. I found that my first in class essay was rushed and I found that I was not as well prepared as I should have been. I could have written more information on my essay outline to save valuable time during the writing class. I think this was a good learning experience to be better prepared for the next in class essay.
College level writing, is the first thing taught when starting a college-level class. meaning the dynamic of how a student was taught to write has been changed and it’s now held to much higher standers. When beginning college, the student is taught the writing process, the writing process is prewriting, outlining ideas, writing a rough draft, revising, and editing. The writing process is what helps the student start the essay, and get to the finishing product. When using the writing process, it also teaches the students good time management skills. Because with each step-in the writing process, a student must make take time for each task. A student to take time to come up with ideas, start prewriting, make an outline, make time to draft, revise, and then edit the essay. I personally plan to improve my writing by taking advantage of a few of the tips outlined in the video. The first tip that I still find myself occasionally struggling with is solid construction of my essays. The video gave excellent suggestions that I plan to use, such as Googling the topic outside of just the assigned reading as well as reviewing the Bethel online library for further related topics (Bethel University, n.d.). One of my personal favorite ways to plan out a paper is to start with a web diagram and plan out my initial topic and then choose my supporting topics.
In the class the thing that I least enjoyed the most was figuring out my writing process. This is because we had to do a auto-ethnography by completing a writing assignment while at the same time speak out loud everything that we thought. After this we had to type everything that we stated in our recording and code thoughts that we wrote down. Despite the fact I did not like the part of the auto-ethnography I did enjoy seeing what my writing process was. Originally, in the beginning of this writing process I thought that I had a structured writing process. I thought my writing process started with me first planning out what I wanted to write then I spent the rest of my time writing my paper and my final step was revising my paper. After doing
With technology, comes the responsibility to moderate the time invested in it. Since society is still so young in terms of being immersed in the new experience. I was able to write this essay by first reading and annotating the story. Next, I went over the annotations and tried to extract evidence which would help present the disturbing role of technology is starting to take up in our lives. Then, I started working on my drafts and revising. I felt like I was a persistent learner because I tried to learn as much I could about the topic. I also communicated powerfully with my peers when I provided and requested for help.
The reason we prewrite is to obtain a lot of raw material and write notes. This way you can come up with strategies that can assist you in writing you first draft. If you try to rush the prewriting phase and start writing too soon, it will lead to a poorly constructed paper. It will be unclear and without true facts. Your teacher will tell you what type and style of paper he or she wants you to write about. First and foremost make sure your topic is approved.
On the first day of class, having forgotten how to write over the blazing summer, I had high hopes I would gain some writing skill. Over the course of the last 10 weeks I learned not only that I am an extreme procrastinator, but that I had a lot to learn in the writing world. I learned many things about writing, including grammar, organization, and expression. Through late nights studying and practice in class, I can proudly say I'm a better writer than I was before.

Throughout my time spent in Mrs. Townsend’s Composition I class, I learned how to be productive more than I ever have before. I knew that signing up for this class would be a challenge for me; however, I decided to stick with the decision to stay enrolled. While trying to balance time with friends, work, and homework, I found out that the ability to stay on top of things is extremely important.
Within this experience of beginning my essay I desired to quit many times. I wanted to quit continuously until i used a strategy taught the day that this writing process was assigned. The strategy was to write anything I felt like writing and allowing it to lead in any direction it ended up being. I choose to write what I did before beginning the process of which i will be sharing throughout this essay. As Maya Angelou once said ‘Nothing will work unless you do”, I began to take this process at ease and understand that I don't have to perfect the essay when I was first beginning. Time has allowed me to complete my first essay in the WBIS course, elaborate on my writing experience and accept the process
