The main reasons that I felt that dropping the bomb was not justified because the bomb was used extremely fast in order to succeed; Americans did not know themselves how the consequences will be. Also, the bomb was dropped without warning. Japan had no idea that Americans were planning this and that resulted in a wipe out of 60% of the city. Moreover the bomb was dropped on populated non-military targets. There were innocent people living in that area who might not have even wanted a war in the first place.

President Harry S. Truman had the power to end war with Japan, but it would involve unleashing the most terrible weapons ever known. The Japanese way was “to fight to the death,” so the only way to defeat the Japanese was to bomb them. With Japan’s heavily guarded enemy lines, there was no way that the U.S. would be able to invade them without the tragic loss of numerous soldiers. As a result, Truman gave the Japanese a chance to surrender, but they turned it down, so Truman gave the command to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I support the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki because Japan refused to an unconditional surrender, it would save many allied lives, it would establish U.S. as a dominant power, and end the war.

There are multiple reasons to prove that America was justified in dropping the atomic bomb on Japan. Japan would never give up. After the missiles were dropped in Midway, there were many deaths, but America found out in Okinawa and in Iwo Jima, that Japan wouldn’t surrender. Japan followed the Bushido code which meant they would never surrender, so the war could go on for five more years. In my opinion, the US was justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Firstly, the Japanese were not innocent because Japan already killed over 2,000 people at Pearl Harbor, they attacked without any warning which resulted encouraging the US to join WW2. There were many reasons for bombing Japan. Dropping the bomb on Japan could possibly make them surrender. Japan had been given 2 other chances to surrender but they were being very ignorant and stubborn. When we bombed them they did finally surrender. It saved approximately 1,000,000 Japanese lives and 100,000 American soldiers. With this bomb it saved so many more people.

I do not think the United States was justified when dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because it should of been considered a war crime, the attack was unnecessary and Japan was already on the verge of surrendering.

While the effects of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were irrefutably and drastically horrific, it was an unavoidable act if American lives were to be protected from further slaughter in a far more drawn out war.
