Nowadays, people understand the issues and have become more concerned about protecting the environment. Nevertheless, environmental organisations still have to make great efforts to deal with climate change sceptics, who question whether human activity is causing environmental issues such as global warming.

1.2.4 Technological environment

Information systems and developing technologies have become a key part of the evolution of environmental organisations. Internet, e-commerce and new concepts such as social networks are very popular within existing and potential new supporters networks turning technology into a powerful communication tool through which to spread information and gain new supporters. Also, Internet media has the lowest cost in comparison to other communication mediums. WWF’s website has around 600,000 visitors a year; visitors who are able to read more about WWF, take part in their campaigns and adoption schemes and make online donations. Technology can also play an important role in ecological and environmental factors. WWF both saves thousands of pounds in paper by not producing information leaflets and also helps the environment by avoiding unnecessary use of paper, instead using online advertising.
