Soldiers of the American Civil War were overwhelmed by a time where weaponry and technological developments were thriving. This brutal war changed the soldiers, both mentally and physically, and continued to have an impact throughout their entire lives. There were not only many deaths during the war, but also prior to the war as many soldiers took their own life. They would experience disturbing thoughts and events in their mind that could not be explained until they became known as mental illnesses. The exploration of psychological disorders following the Civil War improved medical diagnostic tools and the way patients were treated which transformed the treatment of mental illness by creating new ways of discovering illnesses, treating patients, and developing the foundation for the future of psychology throughout America.

Stonewall Jackson, a general for the Confederate Army died in 1863 due to complications from a gunshot wound (“Thomas”). Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson was a general for the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Jackson was most commonly known for his strategy and his men who were very skilled. Despite all of this Jackson was a brilliant tactician and a master at commanding his troops, which is why he is regarded as one of the best generals of the Civil War.

Davy, David Crockett was known as an American folk hero when he was referred in the Texas revolution. He was born on August 17, 1786 in Limestone, but grew up in East Tennessee. He was born to a pioneer family. Davy also got enlisted in the Tennessee militia. He gained a reputation because he hunted and also did a lot of storytelling.

The Civil War was one of America’s most brutal battles in history. Majority of which being white, male soldiers. Over the years, many historians have argued the actual involvement of blacks during the civil war era. Many claiming that they were doing nothing more than assisting the actual, white soldiers in combat such as, nurses, and wagon drivers, not actually picking up the gun and shooting alongside in battle. Most people look over the fact that almost ten percent, or 180,000, of the Union army were African American. Though a small fraction of the amount of total soldiers during the war, their involvement is still significant. These soldiers recruited and voluntarily, committing the same acts of bravery of any Caucasian solider, due to the prejudice against them, they were pushed to the back burner and treated with disrespect, virtually diminishing their extensive courageous acts. Nevertheless these soldiers made an impact in world changing war.

In his career, Timothy Webster served as a New York City policeman in the earliest days of the department, worked as a private detective in the most famous private detective agency ever, acted as a Union spy during the American Civil War, and generally lived a life of adventure and daring. There is no telling what Webster would have accomplished had his life not been cut short.

In Redemption: The Last Battle of the Civil War, Nicholas Lemann describes how reconstruction failed because of the violent strategies and intimidation of white southerners to African Americans, which took place mainly in Southern states like Mississippi and Louisiana. Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to free slaves in the south in 1863. Later on, the thirteenth amendment was ratified to abolish slavery in 1865. Even though these documents were completed, African Americans were still fighting for their rights and went through hardships to keep their rights with the help of a few leaders. White Southerners believed that racial hierarchy was the natural order and that’s the only order they will go by.

For one it helped the farther states to keep in contact with the West, news of what was happening and or important documents were being sent to different states to keep them update, and it helped for new and better ideas of how could the spreading of news could be spread faster and safer.

Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp, an American gambler, Arizona Deputy Sheriff, and Deputy Town Marshal was born on March 19, 1848, in Monmouth, Illinois. He was the third of Nicholas and Virginia Ann Earp 's five sons. Desperate to join the Civil War in hopes of an adventure, Earp at the age of 13

Young men who have never experienced a war or any kind of battle and saw the deaths and destructions caused by the fighting would be greatly surprised that it is not all glory. “Another factor leading to the war was the number of British-allied Indian attacks in the Ohio Valley” (Shi and Tindall 238). Men, women, and children were viciously killed by Indians in several encounters. Because of this, these young men would think twice. Washington, Adams, and Jefferson would think differently than John C. Calhoun and Henry Clay because they had seen war and were aware of the carnage that happens to people in a war where the younger folks think it is all glory, but it isn’t.

“I have chosen guerrilla warfare to revenge myself for wrongs that I could not honorable revenge otherwise. I lived in Kansas when this war was commenced. Because I would n to fight the people of Missouri, my native State, the Yankees sought my life but failed to get me. [They] revenged themselves by murdering my father, [and] destroying all of my property.”

I am Ebenezer Hale if Wethersfield and Enfield CT. Why would ever go to war with the king? All he has done is try to help us and better our living. Take for example, the Sugar Act, the king needed money to pay for the Colonial Defense during the French and Indian war. Why would we not pay for our protection?

“Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees.”1 These were some of Stonewall Jackson’s Final words. Jackson was one of the most charismatic and influential Generals to have ever participated in the American Civil War. It was his work ethic, morality, and immense military expertise that gained him his infamous recognition and respect. Just a small overview of his life will clearly explain how Stonewall Jackson earned his merit as being one of the most outstanding Civil War generals that this country has ever seen.

The Civil War broke out when Earp was 13. Desperate to leave the family farm in Illinois and find adventure, Earp tried several times to join his two older brothers, Virgil and James, in the Union army. But each time, the runaway Earp was caught before he ever reached the battlefield, and was returned

In 1861, a horrific war began. Nobody had any idea that this war would become the deadliest war in American history. It wasn’t a regular war, it was a civil war opposing the Union in the North and the Confederate States in the South.. The Civil War cost many people’s lives on the battlefield and beyond. In addition it cost an extreme amount of money for the nation which possibly could have been avoided if the war had turned to happen a little differently.
