Had refusing the treaty that America tried to force on them hurt the Plateau Indians severely? Did retaliation cause them to almost come to complete annihilation? My position is that yes, the Plateau Indians made a bad decision when they refused the treaty by the United States, and that more of the Indians would have survived if they’d just moved on to the reservation like they were asked. None of the Yakima Wars would have happened if the Indians would’ve just extinguished their pride, and went peacefully onto a reservation where their people did not have to worry about fighting the whites. The main cause of this conflict was the desire of the United States citizens to move west. If they hadn’t believed in Manifest Destiny, and had the

Poverty plagues the entire nation. People assume that the worst of poverty is in the midst of heavily populated areas such as New York or California. What they don’t realize is that poverty rates in Grand Forks are worse than the average poverty rates in the entire nation. And it isn’t just a slight increase, poverty rates in Grand Forks County are 150% worse than the national average. The poverty rates are ridiculous, yet there are only a few articles in the Grand Forks Herald that actually focus on poverty. I researched through the Grand Forks Herald database and came up with less than ten articles in the past 5 years that focused on poverty in the area. That’s a maximum of ten articles in 1,825 days. This report focuses on the effects that

My Yiayia is a very special person to just about everyone who knows her. She loves to talk about her memories and experiences of when she was younger. During the interview I was able to hear even more wonderful stories from her past. She was in high school during the 1950s, she grew up in a small poor neighborhood with brick streets, one high school, one factory everyone would work out once they graduated highschool, and one drug/grocery store. She remembers there was a soda machine at the drugstore where people from her school went to socialize but she was never allowed to. Her parents were immigrants from Turkey making her cultural background very important in her life, she was very sheltered throughout her school years, and her family's

You are probably thinking the same thing that I was, "What does Kenosha, Wisconsin have to do with the Civil War?" I asked myself that when we first moved here and found out that they HAD a Civil War museum. We’ve wanted to go visit it ever since then, but it seems Loving Husband always has to work or we’ve just been lazy and never made it over there. Inspired by the History Channel’s Civil War week, we decided to finally make the trip across town for LH’s birthday on the 2nd. I was amazed at how large the museum is and also at how well done it was. I’d say that it’s on par with the Florida Natural History Museum in Tallahassee. Other than two women and a small hand full of school kids, we were the only people there. I have to wonder how they A) were able to afford to build something like this in a small town like Kenosha and B) can afford to
Voted the second most beautiful vista in America, Mount Washington is a well-known overlook of downtown Pittsburgh. Mount Washington, now a beautiful mountain with a tree covered Cliffside, was not always known for its sights. Many are unaware of the dirty environment that it used to be. Once known as Coal Hill, Mount Washington was the location of many coal mines. Back in the late 1800’s, this mountain was the source that fueled and built Pittsburgh. From the ravaging coal minds to the breathtaking Inclines, there is a lot of history that is hidden under the beautiful area which we now know as Mount Washington.

Lake Tahoe holds a dear place in my heart because it is one of the most often destinations for our family vacations. I lost count of how many times I have been there. For every occasion, it is just the place to go to. It is such a relaxing place, at least for the weekend I do not have to worry about anything. Lake Tahoe is a very green place to be in California. California is a very dry state and having forests like Lake Tahoe is something to be proud of. It attracts thousands of visitors each year and has numerous activities to do there. Not only is Lake Tahoe extremely beautiful, but it has many ecological features.
Most believe that Native American live deep within temperate forests, but one tribe lives within a much colder and frigid climate. This tribe is known as the Inuits. Inuit means “The Real People” (Santella 5). A group of Inuits traveled to the Americas from Asia, and they went towards the north pole. They eventually settled in the Arctic regions and began to thrive (7). They are widely dispersed throughout the Siberian, Alaskan, Canadian, and Greenland regions (6). The Inuits have an interesting history, lifestyle, and religion.
