May 26, 1637 was a fateful day in the history of America. The actions of Major John Mason and his Puritan men set a precedent for the next two hundred years of European and Indian relations. On that clear May night near the Mystic River of New England, hundreds of Pequot Indians were killed by the Europeans and their allies, most of the victims being the elderly, women, and children. This massacre was a massive turning point in the Pequot War, effectively ruining the tribe. Already weakened by disease and by competing native tribes, the Pequot were quickly routed and by September 21, 1638 the war ended with the Treaty of Hartford. The treaty
The Americans started a massive revolt against the British for colonial freedom. The American revolution started in April 1775. The first battle was Lexington and Concord. It was known as the shot heard around the world. Though it is unknown who fired the first shot, it started the war.
Around 200 years ago in 1763, the infamous French and Indian war ended. Colonist thought that after this long lasting war the people would have no worries of war for a while. Until King George, king of Britain, declared the Proclamation of 1763. It declared that the colonist were not to move west of the Appalachian Mountains. It was a rule that the king made to ensure peace and prevent war with the Indians once more. Though the king thought he was ensuring peace, he unknowingly started a revolution that would last eight years and separate the colonies from Great Britain's rule forever.
May 14, 1607, Jamestown was founded, becoming the first permanent English colony. The following year in 1608, tension between the Powhatan’s and English start to rise as the Indian leader of the Powhatan’s wrote a letter to inform John Smith of complaints the Native Americans had. The Native Americans do not want war, as they believe any war they fight in the Powhatans will stay among the trees. As the leader says “What can you get by warre, when we can hide our provisions and fly to the woods (Smith)? The Indians were not trading food which made the English irritable, so the Powhatans declared war because the English were spreading disease as well as stealing food and killing other Powhatans. The first Anglo Powhatan war erupted, killing approximately seventy five percent of the Jamestown population. The war took place during the “Starving Time”, which was a drought that destroyed the food supply in this area. The colonists have not learned how to cultivate the land because they were dependent on the Native Americans to supply their agriculture. After the end of this war, Pocahontas marries John Rolfe, starting a whole new intercultural merging in the world. One of the more prominent new markets available to colonists was saleable tobacco. As history is written, we find that tobacco becomes the number one export for the colonists to England. Not only did the tobacco give the colonists revenue, it gave citizens in England something to ponder about. The English were greedy, always wanting to be wealthy, therefore coming to the colonies where tobacco is booming seems idea. This brought people into the colony, which ends up increasing the population size tremendously. The second Anglo Powhatan war broke out with this massacre, ”Furres, and other provisions, to sell, and trucke with us, for glasse, beades, and other trifles:
It started in 1763 and ended in 1764 with the British being the victors again. To avoid further wars with the Natives, the British government created the Proclamation of 1763 which banned colonial settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. These wars put Britain in a great debt. In order to get their money back, Parliament

America liberated itself from the Great Britain and became the United States. It began when colonist had some words with British soldiers and words turned a group of men coming to attack the guards with bats. After that the soldiers shot and then the war begun. It was a time when all of the colonies came together as one united people to defeat an injustice. I am picking Attucks as a subject because I didn’t know that the first casualty of the Boston Massacre was Crispus Attucks and in a time where racial tensions were just as high as tensions between Americans and the British. So I found him a very important figure in history and never heard of him once in my classes in high
King Phillip’s War-1675-1676, Last hope for the Natives was to unite and fight the white settlers. Metacom lead the attack but ended in failure. Metacom was beheaded and the natives were never a serious threat in New England ever again.
On an “unremarkably clear and pleasant” day in April 19, 1775, the shot that was said to had been able to be heard around the world was fired. (A Guide to Battles) This began the battles in which we know as Lexington and Concord, and the war we know as the Glorious/American revolution. It was fought between the British whom had feared American retaliation for some time, and the American Colonies whom were tired of feeling oppressed by the British. General Thomas Gage advised his British superiors to prepare for war, but this advice was refused and when the time finally came, they were not prepared for the fight at hand. (History of AM Rev) Many events, rules, and regulations helped to lead up to the retaliation of the Americans.
III. As a result of the harsh treatment and strict regulations put on the colonists by the British such as the Boston Massacre, the Tea Act, Stamp Act, and other taxes, the colonists were ready for a change. They are tired of being controlled by a government on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, and are ready to start fighting for their freedom. The colonists form many rebellious groups such as the Sons of Liberty, to protest and rebel against the British involvement in their country. They hold meetings and help carry out acts against the British such as the Boston Tea Party. When the British don't change their ways it is time for war. The fighting starts at Lexington and Concord in the spring of 1775 with the first shots being fired. People all over wanted to help in the war effort by joining the army and forming small militia groups to fight the British. Benjamin Martin's army was one of these groups. The British won many battles
The early 1800s were dark times for the United States. Though free of its rule, the newly-formed nation now had to face Britain once again in the War of 1812. Settlers were moving into the Great Plains and to the West, forcing Native American tribes to relocate. Rising tensions between the U.S. and the native tribes, and conflicts among the tribes themselves, made the perfect conditions for another war. In 1813, tensions finally snapped when a faction of the Creek Indians known as the Red Sticks started a civil war against those Creeks who supported the National Council, a war that eventually grew to involve militias from several U.S. states and other Native American tribes. Although the exact cause of the war is uncertain, what the war was, some major battles of the war, and how it relates back to To Kill a Mockingbird are known.
The war began as disputes over land between British colonists, officials, and the Iroquois Confederacy who were against the French and their Native American allies. The Iroquois
War was common during the colonial period. Most of these were short little scuffles with not many people getting injured or killed, there were not many significant battles. Most of the fighting was over land and the miscommunication between the Native Americans and Europeans. The fighting wasn't just between Native Americans and Europeans, there was a lot of fighting between Native American tribes
