Robert Capa took this photograph on September 5,1936 during the republican spanish war in the city of Cerro Muriano, Spain. From 1936 to 1939, Capa worked in Spain, photographing the Spanish Civil War.The soldier in the picture is Federico Borrell García and in this picture he is getting hit by a bullet.He is collapsing backwards, having been fatally shot in the head. He is dressed in civilian-looking clothing but wearing a leather cartridge belt, and his rifle is slipping out of his right hand. They had thoughts that the picture was fake. However, one thing is true, the photo was not taken on Cerro Muriano, but at the village of Espejo. Jo Ractliffe’s is a female photographer born in South African, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which located in New York City, recently showcased her solo photography series of Angola and South Africa “The Aftermath of Conflict”. This show features 23 photos produced over the past ten years, from August 24, 2016, to March 6, 2016, at Gallery 914. These pictures are the focus on the Angolan civil war and the South African border war. She uses her camera directly towards landscapes to address themes of displacement, conflict, history, memory, and erasure.

The reason I choose to do my graduation project on a photography portfolio is so that it will benefit me during my college admission in which I will be majoring in photography. I want to be able to present the work that I have completed to my professor, that way he can get a feel of what I am capable of accomplishing as well as my strengths and weaknesses as a photographer. It will also benefit me when I set out to seek employment after I graduate from college. Furthermore it will give me the chance to show my customers what I have done over the years. My portfolio would give them the opportunity to see my best work and know what to expect of me as a photographer. I have been planning to be a photographer for some time now and I always loved taking pictures. I find photography as a freedom of expression, it illustrates a mental picture to those who view my work, and it also portrays an image of what I wanted them to see in my point of view as well as a sense of my creativity.

The recent innovations in the field of photography have encouraged budding photographers to take their passion seriously. With the increased use of the internet as a massive platform for digital marketing the need for good quality images, to attract the attention of the potential clients is a must now. The new concept of stock photos has thus replaced the age old concept of clip art. This is so because the stock photos are found to be more alluring in comparison to traditional clip arts, which was in vogue in the 90’s.

Have you ever noticed that in 19th century photography the images captured through a lense developed black and white images that were mostly distorted and hard to understand? If people were captured through a lense they were usually not smiling, it was an odd period for photography.

The photography was considered as a documentary medium because of the replicas of the subject when it appeared 150 years ago. The technologically advanced cameras and development of photojournalism led to the development of realistic photos. The documentary photographers work is known to be long-term projects and includes verbal and some physical contact with his subjects. Durning factual and written work connected layers of life was shown by the photographer. Fantastic photos are taken which includes good lighting, sharp focus and amazing detail in their work, mostly these photos are planned upfront. The framework makes the photo an incredible piece of art. Good documentary photography is easier to sell, there was and still is a public demand for portraits. Documentaries were known for tradition and the photographer had no need to categorize his work, the importance was to document these photo. Photography is a scientific art of creating images by capturing light on a light sensitive material. Mist and fog converts the world into a natural monochrome with a soft stillness to it. Our eyes might not see in black and white but the human brain knows to appreciate the art that a monochrome picture is. It is used everywhere in today's society and through technology has advanced tremendously since its beginnings.

“Look away from the camera and just act natural” directs the photographer to the three year propped up under the oak tree. Natural settings work best for the lighting and landscaping to get a more desirable photographed. It is a cliché that memories last forever; experienced photographers help keep those memories alive. Photographers may seem like their job is realized and easy but there’s a lot of stress, complications, and a lot of knowledge that goes into this career choice.

It would be hard to picture a technology that had more influence on life in the 1900s than photography. Although the airplane, automobile and nuclear power took center stage, it was photography that stole the show.
