In life we sometimes tend to exclude activities that we think won’t be relevant to our goals. For example, a student wants to become a better singer so they join choir. Of course choir makes sense because all they do is sing, but in addition to that the student decides to join a yoga class for fun; unexpectedly, it benefits her singing. You may be wonder how does yoga helps you sing better, well one of the main things you learn in yoga is how to breath properly. In singing the way you breath is very important, to get the most out of your voice your have to breath properly. For the student, they used what they learned in yoga for choir and benefited more. There are activities that may see extremely irrelevant to a certain career, but will still …show more content…
Yearbook has made me love learning; to be part of the staff you have to learn every part of the making the book, which includes: learning how to use computer software and programs, photography, interviewing, writing and marketing. Just seeing how much I have learned in a few months is amazing, it encouraged me to want to keep learning. In college and medical school I’ll be learning an immense amount of information, which might sound scary to other students, but to me it’s exciting. Secondly, I learned time management. In yearbook we can have up to 20 deadlines within the school year. It’s very critical for everyone as a team to meet the deadline or there won’t be a yearbook. As the yearbook design editor I inquire more responsibilities to make sure that the design elements are carried throughout the book and that everyone gets their design done on time.In the same way, physicians also inquire an abundance of responsibilities in the hospital, making sure that everything that needs to be completed is done accuratly in a certain amount of time . Lastly, I learned how to talk to people; my yearbook adviser always told me that “you’ll never get a good story out of the interviewee if they are not comfortable with you.” With that I had to learn how to make strangers become comfortable with me. In a similar way physicians need to have a stable relationship with their patients, where the patient feel comfortable enough to tell their doctor everything. Studies have shown that many patients don't tell their doctor everything mainly because of the comfort level they share. The information that patients to don’t give to their doctors could be a big factor in their health. In order for physicians to receive that vital information they need to be able to create that comfort ability for their
Since these things are achieved through occupation, through doing things, the close link between health and occupation becomes clear (Wilcock, 2001). From an occupational perspective, doing things provides a sense of purpose and fulfilment and leads to a sense of well-being (Crepeau et al, 2009).
Among those activities stated is there anyone which would be performed once in a while?
The National Honor Society has gave me the opportunity to help others in ways that I could not have done on my own. I have had the opportunity to help many in our community with our multiple different community service projects. Last year we sold raffle tickets for a gift card basket. All of the money that we earned went to a family in our community who had been through devastating house fire. They lost not only there house but all of their personal belongings too. The fact that we have the opportunity to help those around us makes the service projects seem even more meaningful. We also took up donations of paper products to give to the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House is a place where families can stay while they have a child at the Ruby Memorial Hospital. They can stay there for as long as
Thirdly, physical exercise itself could re-shape our body, make body stronger and looks healthier. It hence can improve individual’s attractiveness and confidence and hence can enable a positive life attitude. Fourthly, since the physical exercise normally would enable individual to interact with others, socialising with participants and friends in a such low-stress way might meet human’s belonging needs. It therefore could make people have a good mood and recharge themselves to fight against stress (Elizabeth, 2011).
Through my academic years of highschool I wasn't allowed to participant in many activities due, to the fact that I had family obligations to serve and it meant I had to work in my uncle's owned restaurant, everyday after school and return home in the later hours of the night to complete my assignments due tomorrow, and this prevented me to enjoy the the many activities my friends were involved in. Though, I had worked many countless hours in the restaurant, there had been times where I was able to escape from the my reality and participate in very short and unconstant activities, for instance intramural basketball, where teams were formed to compete in every so often, to compete in a basketball game, and also, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) where each individuals were tested for their personal knowledge of a topic relating to the business spectrum, and participants could compete in team events against other schools and their groups.
Although practicing football is not an enjoyable activity, it is a necessity for success. Practice in any sport will always result in a rewarding outcome. To be successful during a football game, the team needs to prepare for the game, and they do this by practice. The same principles apply in one’s career. Going to college to further one’s education will help someone start a successful career in any career path they choose. Everyone has been told before, practice makes
Being in yearbook has trained me for my life beyond school. I know how to fill out a check, calculate tax, and even work with difficult people and prosper from it.
In the years of 2016-2017 my first last semester of junior year with my WBL supervisor Bryant Oliver, Advisor of the FFA I learn many things I enjoy learning to prepare myself for real life. Things I learn are: typing up top sheets, requisition forms, FFA roster and typing purchase orders on the type writer to be sent to the Board of Education. Then the papers I type I print, then
My clinical experience for this semester was an opportunity to follow the house supervisor at Trios Healthcare in Kennewick, WA. The courses at Washington State University (WSU) consisting of leadership and management have taught me the value of collaboration as well as communication. With the opportunity to follow the house supervisor I was able to apply this knowledge to my clinical experience. This was especially good because one of my learning objectives was to participate in the management of admissions and transferring patients in the
I feel as if recreational activities can benefit people greatly. I am a part of a cheer team, and it helps me in many different ways. In cheer, you have to work extremely hard. You tumble, you dance, you stunt, and so many more things. This certain activity keeps me entertained, but also keeps me in good shape. Also, since you’re a part of a team, you can learn so many things from it. You bond with the people on your team, and you are taught a lot of life lessons. Another activity I enjoy doing is cross country. Running for long distances is exhausting, but it’s a great way to exercise. Being a part of the xc team was one of my most favorite things of the year. I became close with everyone on the team and it was actually a lot of fun. Something
For example, when I was in elementary school, there was a boy named Derek. Derek was by far the greatest kickball player in our class. He was 5'3" and had a leg I can only compare to a cannon. However, this was the only activity Derek participated in. Now granted, he was the first picked and the most feared by opponents, but he never expanded his skill set beyond that of kickball. So when the class decided to play soccer one day, Derek's abilities were of no use to him and he found little enjoyment out of the game. If only Derek had tried soccer and expand his realm of activities, he would've been able to properly enjoy the game and all the experiences it offered. He would've been able to meet new people and perhaps given time, he could apply his strong leg to soccer and take full advantage of his athletic ability while improving other traits, such as his endurance which was never tested in kickball. In the world we live in today, most people live like Derek. They spend all their life focused on a single activity and hardly stray from it because their current lifestyle does not demand a change in routine. But participating in this now social norm we are restricted from an endless amount of other experiences. Although, not everyone follows this
Therefore hobbies and extracurricular activities are usually a good way of killing time and preventing people from doing stupid
In conclusion, dedication pays off. For example, with dedication to swimming I was able to qualify for meets that I would have never qualified for without endless practices, that required constant dedication. With dedication to learning jQuery, I have been able to develop apps that I would have been able to make with out pushing through weeks of learning. Dedication is the difference from good to
The time spent in such endeavors can and does improve the quality of the time spent in the other aspects of life. This can also be great time spent as families. Whatever circumstances you are in, learning a new skill such as playing a musical instrument can bring a lifetime worth of
The courses range from film making and creative writing to yoga and pilates. This provides employees a continuous education. In optional classes like yoga, people from different departments mix together, interact and appreciate one another (Taylor, 2008).
