Yearly Goals At times, we may question the source of our true motivation. Moreover, what may keep us going and guided in life? Goals play an important role in every aspect of our everyday lives. A goal is defined as “ the object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result”. A goal may be as simple as buying some milk or as complex as buying stocks and shares. A clear, attainable goal can persuade the most unmotivated person. Upon taking Personal Fitness, I had an idea of how I could utilize the class to better my physical fitness. Therefore, I set goals to help me improve and ultimately guide me through the course of the semester. Furthermore, my current goals are to increase my muscle mass (muscle strength/endurance workouts 2 days per week) and improve my physical fitness (speed, strength, endurance, etc..). I chose these goals in order to better my overall cardiorespiratory endurance a my muscular strength, and my muscular endurance using the FITT principle. …show more content…
Taking personal fitness has helped me to gain knowledge about goal setting, physical wellness, and the health related components of physical fitness. With that being said, I make an effort to include a daily workout plan. My workout plan will keep me from being unbalanced and sedentary. After running competitive track for seven years, I have found it hard to get back into my routine. My workouts will incorporate an ample amount of stretching, /strength and endurance type lifting, and some cardiorespiratory
Goal setting is an excellent way for students to track and improve upon physical fitness levels. The importance of being able to set goals and to try to achieve them is that each individual student can assess where they are and set goals to improve. Not all students can achieve the same fitness standards. Some students are born with more muscle mass or more fast twitch muscle fibers than other students. Some students have asthma or other physical difficulties that make it difficult to measure up with other students when all students are required to get a certain score on a fitness test to get an A. Using goal setting where all students can be successful by reaching their goals and showing improvement could be a positive influence for future motivation. While problem based learning can help students to learn and use goal setting (Hubball 2006), goal setting may not always help students to achieve greater fitness levels. Hill (2015) found that those students who set goals over an 18 week period did not have any significant improvement over those students that did not set goals on the pacer and push up tests. Similarly, in another study looking at the effects of goal setting on Native elders found only a weak correlation between goal setting and improvement on the amount of steps taken in a day using a pedometer (Sawchuck 2011). The problem with this study was that the researchers set the goals for the participants. It may be more important that students set their own
As the famous bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger once said, “Training gives us an outlet for suppressed energies created by stress and thus tones the spirit just as exercise conditions the body.” During my 3 years of training, I learned much about what it takes to make an out of shape person to a healthy and fit person with just the right decisions and knowledge. For instance, I learned the importance of consistency, in which in order to be actively fit and healthy, there must be consistency. As a young fitness fanatic, I
Motivation is the number one driving force behind anything and everything an individual does each day. “Motivation is the desire to do the best possible job or to exert the maximum effort to perform an assigned task. Motivation energizes, directs, and sustains human behavior directed towards a goal.” (Honor, 2009). Motivation can determine the outcome of projects, goals, and can set limits on what an individual can obtain or what they believe they can obtain. Motivation often is the deciding factor on how successful a project in an organization is, and an individual’s needs and desires can both influence a person’s motivation greatly. Motivation can also determine how well an individual does in school, college, or university.
The reason I needed to create my workout is because I had been a three sport varsity athlete in high school but I suffered kneecap injuries, which forced me to stop playing. The goals for my workout were to build up my knees and thigh areas. I also wanted to build muscle mass in my upper body. I need to eat a good healthy balance of food and drink. I don’t care much for chocolate or sweets and that helps me when it comes to choosing what to eat. However, I did come to realize that I need to eat more variety of fruits and vegetables. These goals were met throughout the course of the semester and I was able to succeed in my workout.
FITT, SAID, and SPORT are all training regimens to provide an accurate program for all different people, whether they are fit or unfit. All these programs show different qualities on what should be expected, but the specific principles of exercise are progression, regularity, overload, variety, recovery, balance, and specificity. (PowerPoint) According to the Physical Activity Guidelines you are to do 150 minutes of moderate exercise and 75 minutes of vigorous activity a week and 2 or more days of strength training that works the 7 major muscle groups. Most people have different reasons they work out, in the video some expressed doing it for their weight and health while others said it brings them joy and peace of mind (Physical Activity Guidelines). This is important to these training programs because not everyone is the same; therefore you need to base a program on the individual.
“The tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach.”- Benjamin Mays. Life would be like an old film where everything is black and white, silent and has no interesting climax, if one has no specific dream to strive for. Dreams are the motivating factor for people to set goals. It all starts with an inspiration, to aspirations, to obstacles, which inevitably leads to success. Have you ever asked yourself, “Why do people have new year’s resolutions even though they have no plans on actually doing them?” Well, many people set targets but they never end up achieving them. Why is that? It is mainly because their goals were not SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely) enough. While others strive for their dreams even though they know that there is a small chance of reaching it. When we achieve our goals, it gives meaning to our life, helps us overcome future obstacles, and drives us to move forward, which leads to the future ‘you’.
The benefits of living an active lifestyle, as opposed to opting for a sedentary existence are well documented. For online P.E. this year, my primary goals were to increase my overall fitness. I do not find the time to exercise frequently during the school year, so I wanted to develop a routine that was doable, enjoyable, and beneficial for my overall health. I set two goals: to increase the number of push-ups and sit-ups I can do in one set, and also to build up cardiorespiratory endurance (by training myself to run 5 miles in a single hour). As such, I chose exercises and activities that would help me achieve my goals. For my cardio activity, I chose to run on my treadmill for about an hour a couple days a week. For my strength activity, I chose to do pilates workout videos. I also used a workout app about once a week to add variety to both my strength and cardio routines. I fulfilled my additional choice activity requirement by hiking and playing pick-up games with my family and friends. I chose these activities because I believed that they would help me achieve my goals while also being enjoyable enough to keep me motivated. Overall, I am happy with my choices. While running on the treadmill may not sound like the most fun activity to do, I appreciated the consistency of running on a controllable treadmill. It was easy to judge my progress without the environment affecting my performance, like it would if I ran outside. Pilates is one of my favorite exercises to do, and probably the one I will continue the most into the school year. There are many different videos available
A successful person chooses goals to achieve something that is of great value and importance to them. This in turn motivates the person to achieve the goal because when the desired outcome is very important to a person, that person will be determined to persevere. Goal setting also improves a person 's organizational and time management skills because goal setting requires prioritization and that leads to the successful and sequential completion of necessary tasks. Once a person defines and prioritizes goals a plan should be drawn out detailing how this goal will be achieved. Goals and the time-line for their completion should be clearly defined, it is also important that a person 's
My overall fitness goals are to be able to run a mile on the treadmill without getting tired or stopping, improve my muscular strength and endurance, and become more flexible. My goal is to be able to do more than ten pushups without getting tired or my arms getting sore. I also want to be able to touch my toes and be able to hold stretching position longer than thirty seconds. Overall I just want to become healthier and in shape. I do think that I can accomplish these goals with hard work and determination.
Physical fitness is a necessity for everyone regardless of race, culture, or sex in order to live a long healthy life. In order to achieve physical fitness, you must be able to perform daily tasks vigorously, while avoiding diseases related to a lack of activity. There are many benefits of physical fitness like endurance, good figure, muscular strength, and flexibility. Some mental benefits include a positive attitude, high self-esteem, and the production of endorphins, which act as a natural painkiller. There have been many benefits of physical activity, which were always praised throughout history. It was not until the 1970s, that enough information was available on physical fitness. The American College of Sports Medicine and the American Heart Association has since begun issuing physical activity recommendations to the public. Some of these recommendations include cardio-respiratory exercises and sustained periods of vigorous activity. The past several years the American College of Sports and Medicine, American Heart Association, and Nation Heart, Lung and Blood Institute have also recommended regular, moderate physical activity.
What do I mean by that? If your fitness is geared towards a workout session or exercise routine around a sport or physical activity you are truly inspired and passionate about, then you will find a schedule that you know deep down you'll be able to commit to
The New Year has arrived, and with it, a deluge of New Year’s resolutions. Many of these resolutions are fitness based. In fact, 27%, the majority, of all resolutions are directly related to a fitness and health centered lifestyle (statisticbrain.com). People want to start exercising, but for many of them, it is unclear where they should start. A major contributing factor to the confusion is what type of exercise program to choose. Two methods make up the majority of exercise routines, calisthenics and weightlifting. In brief, calisthenics is exercising using only one’s bodyweight, while weightlifting is using special equipment to exercise. Examples of calisthenics exercises are push-ups, sit ups, and squats. Weightlifting can include
Understanding goal setting in current research has produced positive results, one can define goal setting as a systematic approach to achieving the desired result. Goal setting incorporates in various degree the desire to achieve an objective whether it’s for personal gain, because it makes them feel good or because there is a purpose.
