National parks are areas specified by the federal government to preserve the natural environment. They exist for the general public to enjoy, but most importantly, for the preservation of animals. National parks often have a historical or scientific purpose with a special landscape that has been kept in its natural state. The oldest, largest and possibly the most well-known national park in the United States is Yellowstone National Park which protects the scenery, wildlife, geologic and ecological systems for future generations. Yellowstone National Park was reserved due to its geothermal sensations including the collective geothermal, geologic, and hydrologic features and systems along with its underlying volcanic activity that supports them. The park preserves a large and diverse group of land-dwelling, water-dwelling, and microbial life. Natural processes operate in an ecological context which has not been impacted by human change making it a valuable and unique natural preserve.
Yellowstone national park is a magnificent place and it was discovered by to different men in very different time periods many years apart. One of the men was John Colter he joined the Lewis and Clark expedition in 1803. Tom Murphy is the other man he has been exploring the same area that John Colter did almost 200 years ago for almost 40 years. Yellowstone National Park is located mostly in Wyoming but spreads into Idaho and Montana. Yellowstone national park has a Taiga biome. Taiga is the largest terrestrial biome in the world. It is primarily coniferous forest or boreal forest. The North American Taiga is at high elevations, in the mountainous western region. Within this park, there are various species of consumers, producers, prey, and predators. One very important species is the gray wolves. The gray wolves are one of the keystone species in Yellowstone National Park. A keystone species is a species that has a large effect on a community relative to the abundance of the species. This means that as the gray wolf population increases or decreases in this area, it will have some drastic effects on the entire community.
Today was an exciting day, my family and I went on a trip to the Yellowstone National Park! I was shocked at the history of the park. The park has been around for almost 11,000 years. We had to take a plane because it is located almost in all of Wyoming, but does go into Montana and Idaho, so I got to visit three states. It is one of the United States well known parks and visited by millions, including myself. The tour guide was very helpful in giving us information about the park. The earliest visit recorded was back in the 1800s. The people of Montana did not want development of the land that lead to President Ulysses S. Grant to preserve the land and make it a park. The people refused to have mining and logging to destroy their land.

Yellowstone is one of the largest, intact, temperate ecosystems in the world, and has all of the original species from when Europeans first started settling in the united states. Garrott talked mainly about wildlife issues in Yellowstone national park, including the commercial slaughter of bison and their re-introduction to the park, the introduction of non-native mountain goats and their possible impact, complications between the agriculture industry and native bighorn sheep, and the fight to decide the registration of wolverines as an endangered
Yellowstone National Park forms the core of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Sitting on 34,375 square miles, it is considered one of the largest nearly intact temperate-zone ecosystems on Earth (Schullery). Greater Yellowstone’s diversity and natural wealth includes the hydrothermal features, wildlife, vegetation, lakes, and geologic wonders like the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River (Hydrothermal vents and how they work). Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872 primarily to protect geothermal areas that contain about half the world’s active geysers (Hydrothermal vents and how they work). During that time, the parks natural state was largely taken for granted. As development throughout the West increased, the park’s over 2 million
Yellowstone became a national park in 1872, it is a proud monument to America’s wilderness and an incredibly vast park, over 3,500 miles. This park was once characterized by the Grey Wolf whom presided over it. Now, as you and I understand National parks are protected from hunting, fishing, forestry and other man made interferences in mother nature’s design. When Yellowstone was established officially there was no legislation preventing the hunting of the pack predator, so in the way humans tend to, the wolf was over hunted and made locally extinct in the 1930’s. At the time there was no evident reason for the protection of wolves, in fact they were a menace to American
Yellowstone National Park is one of the largest and oldest national parks in American history. Yellowstone was the first park to be protected by private investment on March 1, 1872, and the first to be put under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service in 1918, no doubt due to its unique and inspiring landscape and geothermal features. In fact, Yellowstone National Park is home to half of the world’s total hydrothermal features. These awesome attractions draw an incredible amount of visitors, an average of two to three million each year, to Yellowstone’s immense landscape. The park has a total size of 28,125 square miles, is found in three distinct states, and is considered to be one of the largest

Catlin was known for his landscape paintings, until he brought into perspective how precious the open land was. Catlin believed this open wilderness protection. He stated, “What a beautiful and thrilling specimen for America to preserve and hold up to the view of her refined citizens and the world… A Nation’s Park, containing man and beast, in all the wild and freshness of their nature’s beauty!” Through the perspective and ideas of Catlin this news traveled and inspired others. Claim: Yes, Yellowstone is a safe place to visit and live because there is no eruption of the supervolcano happening anytime soon.Yellowstone is mostly in Wyoming and parts of Montana and Idaho. More than 3.8 million people have been visiting the since 2011. Which shattered the record in 2010 of 3.6 million people. If the park wasn’t safe then not a lot of people would be visiting the park.
