In my personal opinion Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" is one of the most hauntingly cold horror movies to come out in the 1980s. This film takes a unique way of delivering its scares through the use of intricate shot composition, editing and consistent use of atmosphere to create a sense of constant tension, a tension that can only be brought on by the feeling of being trapped like a prisoner in the unknown a feeling that easily bleeds over to the viewing to the audience. The film creates an eerie cold and damp atmosphere that runs through the movie where it teeters on giving you the feeling like you're about to have a good time but also you can sense that something bad is looming around. You'd think they'd at least air-condition the place.” The heat irritates and agitates most of the jurors, resulting in clashes of moods, further adding to the tension. Throughout the film the camera level goes from above eye level to eye level, increasing the tension by showcasing more reactions and emotions during intense scenes.
