Eventually the day I dreaded came. On February 12th, 2016 the four of us, my mom, dad, sister, and I, embarked on a journey that, little did I know, would change my outlook on sailing forever. Once I stepped foot on the Disney Wonder I told myself “It’s Disney, what could go wrong.” As soon as I walked into the stateroom I jumped on my bed and unpacked.

Long before the Florida Turnpike and the Interstate Highway System ramped up to full speed and swampland in Central Florida was paved over, Florida tourist venues and roadside attractions were an eclectic mix of fun, imagination, intrigue and amazement for everyone. From reptile farms, tropical gardens and aquatic springs to dolphin shows, old west towns and museums of the unique and strange, tourists visiting Florida were able to catch, either by design or on a whim, these venues, as they rolled down US highways 1,19, 41, 301 and all the off-the-beaten-path back roads. But as time marched on, so did the tourist, as they stayed on the interstate and headed for Orlando, to see what all the hub-bub was about in the early 1970s. The venues and attractions may be long gone, but they are not forgotten, as memories of the wonderful tourist and roadside attractions that were a piece of Florida history, are recalled.

If I can get a quality pair of jeans at a fraction on the price, I am glad to shop at the thrift store.
