John Lubbock wrote, "Your character will be what you yourself choose to make it." This is a great opinion, but I also have an opinion of my own. I personally feel that experiences shape you into who you are. Every situation you go through impacts your life in many different ways. One small decision can change your life forever.
Our parents raise us hoping for us to develop certain character traits, but there comes to a point when we start to become our own person based on the experiences we go through, any situation, good or bad, can influence our personality mentally and emotionally. This is true because our character traits change as we grow as people. You are never going to be a solid person. You may have the same silhouette, but it is impossible to stay consistently one way your whole life. You will never be the same person you were yesterday and that may appease some people or it may disappoint them, but that's just the way life is. One small decision could change your life and the world forever.
If we could determine our own character traits, then life would be easy. No more having to figure it out for ourselves by trial and error. We could also never grow and develop as people if we chose our traits. Becoming who we are takes time and experience, it just doesn't happen overnight. The situations we overcome give us wisdom and that has to be earned.
John Lubbock may have convinced many people with his statement, and he may have changed the way people look at life, but he made me realize that life is all about moments. Moments that we will never forget and some that we wish we could, but if there is one thing I have learned it would be we need to go through all of those moments to figure out who we are. Everything we go through serves a purpose that we are probably unaware of at the time, but in the end it will all be worth it. Life is truly fascinating in its own way, and it's something the human mind will never fully understand. Just remember that everything happens for a reason and it will ground you as an
