ZAPP book report 11/24/09 ZAPP The Lightning of EMPOWERMENT, by William C. Byham Ph.D. and Jeff Cox presents a story of different problems that managers/supervisors face and how they deal with the problems. The book shows how an autocratic supervisor would deal with a problem compared to a participative supervisor would handle the problems. The story shows the contrast between a supervisor that ZAPPS (empowers) her employees and a supervisor that SAPPS his employees by his interactions and management style with the employees.

the book MAUS by Art Spiegelman is an amazing book about Spiegelman father’s experience during WW2. The story is told by Spiegelman, as in present time with present events, and the story of WW2 is described as a memory. The main characters in the story for the present time are Spiegelman (author) , Vladek (author’s father), and Mala ( Vladek’s wife). The main characters in WW2 story are Vladek, and Anja (Vladek’s wife during the war). The story takes places in Poland, mid 1930’s to winter 1944. The main conflict Vladek is facing is, he is losing his family along the way throughout the war.

If your neighborhood was flooded, how fast would you want the government to respond? Hours? Days? Weeks? Well, for victims of Hurricane Katrina it was months. But why? One of the purposes of the government is to serve the people. There was different government groups at the sites of the aftermath of Katrina, but many of them didn’t even bother to help the victims in need like the military, police, and national guard. In the book “ Zeitoun” written by Dave Eggers we see that a victim of the hurricane had more of an authentic human response than the government did. My book Saving Zasha by Randi Barrow has just about everything from love to intense action like shootings or chases. Saving Zasha should be preserved because it makes the reader ask questions about the book to better understand the book, it also intrigues me when most books don't even make me interested in it , and lastly the book had very small describing details that made the book come together very well.

A Long Way Gone is a heartbreaking story on how war can change lives. Ishmael Beah, who is also the author, tells the true story of his life and becoming a young soldier against his will. Ishmael finds himself committing acts he could never do normally, such as stealing, killing, and doing drugs. It all started when Ishmael’s village was attacked. Ishmael and his friends are forced to wander from village to village. Eventually, Ishmael is recruited and becomes a soldier. He is forced to kill and commit acts of violence he could never see himself doing.

The book I read was called “A Long Way Gone” by Ishmael Beah. It was a non-fiction book. “A Long Way Gone” is about Ishmael Beah, who is 12 years old when he's villages gets attacked and he has to go to village to village finally getting to one were he thinks is safe. But when news about the village needed soldiers Ishmael has to become one to get resources to survive. When he is excused from war he goes to rehabilitation in a city called freecity. Once he gets rehabilitated he goes to new york to speak about the experiences he had with the war.
