At first glance, it undoubtedly is utopia, her island is filled with magnificent waterfalls, flower beds, violets and “tender” parsley. Calypso’s cave has springs that “bubble[s]” and are “shallow and clear”(V 62), “clear” is a symbol for cleanliness and open to hospitality, hospitality is a valued trait deeply embedded in greek culture.
