Summary/Plot: The movie Zero Dark Thirty is a fictional account, loosely based on the finding and killing of Osama Bin Laden and his associates. The film details U.S. and foreign government interagency cooperation between organizations, such as the military, CIA, FBI, and Pakistan ISI, to track down and kill Osama Bin Laden. The story centers on certain CIA agents and the methods used to extract information from alleged terrorists so Bin Laden’s location could be determined. Set in the threatening regions of the Middle East, CIA operative Maya, whose only job at the CIA has been to find where Bin Laden is hiding, and Dan, who teaches Maya how the CIA operates in Pakistan, are assigned to work together in Pakistan’s U.S. Embassy.…show more content…
Zero Dark Thirty exemplified the ideas mentioned in the text about the U.S. military campaign in the Middle East to capture Bin Laden. More specifically, the U.S. government worked with other nations, such as Pakistan, to collect information and exchange dialogue to aid the U.S. soldiers in their fight against Bin Laden. Connecting back to the movie, the influence of the main characters, Dan and Maya, exemplifies the role of U.S. government employees in the track down of Osama Bin Laden. Since Dan was an employee of the CIA, he had access to classified information about the tracking of Bin Laden, which he could share with Maya while they were assigned to work at the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan. For example, Dan could share photos with Maya about secret locations of cave meetings between Bin Laden and his followers in remote areas of Pakistan. This would instruct Maya on how to create briefings for U.S. military, which would allow them to formulate attack strategies against Taliban groups in the attempt to reach Osama Bin Laden. Critique: The film was excellent. Even though Zero Dark Thirty was based off a horrific tragedy that occurred in America, the film had a great storyline, and it included a believable premise and enjoyable characters, and it addressed the subject matter appropriately.
