Zika Virus Lyme Disease Pertussis
Disease is limited to humans? (no animal reservoirs) Yes No, there are animal reservoirs Yes
Limited persistence in the environment? Yes Yes Yes, it is a couple of days.
Absence of long-term carrier state? Yes Yes No, the virus can live in an asymptomatic individual and be passed to others.
Long-term immunity results from infection? Yes No No, immunity from natural infection and vaccination wears off over time.
Vaccination confers long-term immunity? There is currently no vaccination. There is currently no vaccination No
Herd immunity prevents perpetuation of an epidemic? Herd immunity cannot occur through vaccination. However since the same person cannot be infected twice, Herd immunity may occur once there
In this project women of childbearing age was largely the population of focus, with many social determinants of the health that made this already vulnerable population even more in need of assistance concerning possible Zika outbreaks, prenatal education, and family planning services. Social determinants of health may include a variety of non-medical variables such as socioeconomic status, education attainment, neighborhood factors, racial discrimination, access to resources, working environment, etc. (Braveman, Egerter, & Williams, 2011; Mendez, Hogan, & Culhane, 2013). Women of childbearing age in relation to Zika virus exposure risk may encounter institutionalized racism and various upstream determinants of health that may negatively impact their ability to obtain healthcare coverage, educational resources, and family planning services. The political trends in Texas towards defunding Planned Parenthood and not expanding Medicaid services has placed an enormous burden on the women of Texas who wish to plan or prevent pregnancy but do not have the financial means to do so (Darney, et al., 2017). In the wake of a possible endemic disease, such as Zika virus, the most vulnerable will be the most susceptible.
In the united states , the government is divided into three different branches, although they are divided and they each have their own specific purpose; they all come together to make sure one main goal is provided and that is protection. The government is here to protect its people from things such as; laws that violates rights, harmful people, illnesses. And etc. in this case the government is in charge of protecting everyone from the illness Zika, which is a virus that is spread to people primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito. After viewing the assigned readings and viewing it proves that the government is fulfilling its role in protecting the people from the Zika virus.
The Olympic Games in Rio De Jaineiro during this past summer of 2016 shared the spotlight with the Zika Virus. Many athletes were concerned about this new transmitted virus and proceeded to walk away from the games. Even with many of the athletes backing out of the games there were many brave athletes that looked past this obstacle and focused on something else, winning the gold. The committee was thinking of relocating the Olympic Games because of the Zika breakout and all of the commotion it had caused. Not many knew about the new virus; how you could get it and how it was being spread. Many people just thought it was just another normal mosquito bite that only gave some type of minor flu. Little did anyone know that in fact the Zika Virus is very harmful and, can end up being deadly.
Aiden Alexander Mrs. Bartman English II 7 March 2024. Have you ever heard of Edgar Allen Poe? During his time, he was an American author and a prominent writer of short-story gothic literature. The short stories that will be in this essay are “Cask of Amontillado”, “Hop-frog”, and “The Fall of the House of Usher”. “Cask of Amontillado” is about a man who gets revenge on someone who wronged him by luring them with the promise of wine.
1. There are four key audiences that need to be communicated to about the actions of The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first audience would be women who are pregnant or women who are thinking about becoming pregnant. This would be the most important key audience in my opinion since the Zika Virus greatly affects women who are pregnant and can cause negative impacts for their babies. Women who are thinking about becoming pregnant are also important because even though it currently doesn’t affect them or their baby it could in the future and they need to take precautions with where to travel and how to protect themselves. The second key audience would be couples or young adults of childbearing age planning to travel to affected areas. This audience needs to be
My opinion concerning the Zika virus is one that is strongly built upon the principle that government aid and funding in regards to health care is necessary to ensure the safety of American citizens. A fatal virus such as this one that spreads through a country at an exponential rate is not a epidemic to be taken lightly. Nor is it an issue that should be dismissed simply because of libertarians believing that healthcare should be handled at a private level because of the sinister idea of a large scale imposition of government aid that would provide assistance to citizens that are weeks, or even days, away from dying. The two biggest political parties of the U.S. seem to understand that this issue is a pressing one, and that funding to combat
Lyme disease, or lyme borreliosis, is an emerging infectious disease transmitted by ticks. Lyme disease is considered an emerging infectious disease because it’s incidence has increased over the past 20 years, and it was not identified until 1975 in the United States (CITE). Lyme disease is the most commonly reported vector-borne disease in the United States. Lyme disease causes symptoms similar to that of influenza, and includes headache, chills, fever, lethargy, and muscle pain in the initial stages. A bulls-eye shaped rash at the site of the tick bite can also occur in those infected, but not all infected persons develop the rash. The rash typically develops three to thirty days after the person is bitten. Later
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection (spirochetal bacterium) which is spread to humans by ticks. (1) “Most humans are infected through the bites of immature ticks called nymphs. Nymphs are tiny (less than 2 mm) and difficult to see; they feed during the spring and summer months. Adult ticks can also transmit Lyme disease bacteria, but they are much larger and are more likely to be discovered and removed before they have had time to transmit the bacteria. The tick must be attached for 36 to 48 hours or more before the Lyme disease bacterium can be transmitted.” Ticks are most commonly found in hard to reach, see or discover areas on the body like warm creases and crevices or on the scalp and hair.
Lyme disease is caused by a spirochete— spirochete is a corkscrew-shaped bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi. A group of children in Old Lyme, Connecticut, had mysterious arthritis-like symptoms and led to being identified in 1975. Because Lyme Disease symptoms copies many other diseases,Lyme Disease is also known as “The Great Imitator,”.
Part of being a good parent is not only administering love, discipline and providing for the physical needs of a child, but also being alert to anything that may negatively affect their child's welfare.
Lyme disease is an illness that is caused by a Borrelia bacteria. This disease is spread to humans through the bite of an infected tick that carries the pathogen. The main reservoir of the Lyme disease pathogen is usually a mouse, but any small mammal can act as the reservoir if it has been contaminated by the infected tick (either in the larval or nymph stage). The bacteria can then be passed on to a human host. Transmission of the pathogen could occur with as soon as twenty-four hours after the bite takes place.
The most widely recognized vector-borne sickness in the United States is Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a multisystem disease brought on by contamination with the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi and the body's immune reaction to the infection. The disease is transmitted to people by means of tick bites, from infected ticks of the family Ixodes.
In a study of Zika virus in mice, scientists examined the immune system against the pathogen. An immunologist, Akiko Iwasaki, was the leader of this investigation. His team learned that the immune cells, CD8 T, swarm the brain when the infection spreads into the brain from the blood. The cells not only limit the infection of nerve cells but trigger paralysis; in which Zika can cause. According to Iwasaki, "'The immune cells that are generated by infection start attacking our own neurons,'...'The damage is not occurring through the virus infection, but rather the immune response to the virus'" Yale University. (2017, November 20). Zika- related nerve damage caused by immune response to the virus. ScienceDaily. Retrieved May 15, 2018,
In the story To Kill a Mocking Bird if you notice that the main character( Scout ). She has no mother. She is being raised by a single father. Also her brother Jem is being raised by their single father. Have you ever thought how would the story be affected if Scout's mother would be alive. In my opinion all this following character would be affected. Scout, Jem, Atticus, Calpernia, and Boo.
I chose to observe a class for my scene. The class I observed was Professor Ingram’s 3920 “Interviewing” class. The reason I chose this as my scene was because with it being a classroom setting I assumed there would be more than enough human activity. Also, I have had professor Ingram for a class before so I know her style of teaching is very conversational involves a lot of class participation.
