EXPLORING SAFETY-RELATED GOVERNMENT WEBSITES
A1 The Mission of the CDC is to protect America from health, safety, and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S.
The agency is organized with many smaller branches, including National Center for
Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), National Center for HIV/AIDS,
Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP), and also the National Center for
Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD). These are just a few of the organizations that are a part of the CDC.
The CDC provides resources concerning laboratoty safety including, but not limited to, chemical hazards, chemical safety, eye safety, protective clothing, and skin exposure and effects.

They are a branch of the Department of Health and Human Services. The CDC's focus and mission is to protect Americain health however it is threatened. An important contribution of the CDC is workplace safety. Not only does the organization monitor all industries and occupations, they also provide important information on common and uncommon diseases and injuries and teach you how to prevent injuries through the use of safety precautions. Through all of these efforts, the
CDC effectively keeps America healthy.
The CDC official website is www.cdc.gov. On this website, Important information on chemical safety is provided. This includes numerous chemicals and how they react to certain stimulus. Also noted is the personnal safety equipment necessary to properly handle said chemicals and proper disposal methods.

Unlike the CDC, who are protecting the country as a whole from all potentially hazardous diseases, OSHA is focused only on providing a safe workplace for all Americans. The website address for
OSHA is www.osha.gov. The site provides comprenhesive information on all safety laws and a complaint filing system for injured workers.
B4 The resources available on the CDC website are much broader than what is available on the OSHA website. This is because the CDC handles not only workplace safety, but also any foreign or domestic diseases that threaten
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention mission is to collaborate to create information and tools for people and communities to protect themselves through health promotion, prevention of disease, injury and disability, and the preparedness for new health threats The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention seeks to accomplish its mission by working with partners throughout the nation and the world to monitor health, detect and investigates health problems, conduct research to enhance prevention, develop and advocate sound public health policies, implement prevention strategies, promote health behaviors, foster safe and healthful environments, and provide leadership training. In order for the Centers for Disease to achieve their mission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention relies on external partners including public health association, state and local public health agencies, schools and universities, and volunteer organizations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a created a set of four health protection goals. The goals are all people especially those at a greater risk of health disparities will achieve their optimal life span, the place where people live, work, learn, and play will protect and promote their health and safety, people in all communities will be protected from infectious, occupational environmental, and terrorist threats, and people around the world will
The following international, national, and local agencies are aimed at keeping the public safe while seeking optimum health and well-being for all citizens involved. They provide assessments, develop policies, assurance, meet unmet needs, and enable access to health care (McCowan, 2013). They hone communities’ capabilities to respond effectually to health issues by shielding and endorsing the health of the community and its residents (McKenzie & Pinger, 2016-b).
The mission of the Department of Health and Human Services is to help provide the structure that Americans need to live prosperous and healthy lives. This service gives families, children, and seniors a way to receive quality health care. This achieved by helping parents find affordable childcare and legitimate jobs. This organization is dedicated to keeping American’s food safe, preventing infectious diseases, and by pushing the boundaries of how to treat and diagnose disease (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services , 2013).
Zoonotic diseases is a serious and major concern to human health. What is a zoonosis? Zoonoses are diseases that are caused by pathogens that can infect different animals that has the ability to pass to humans. Zoonotic pathogens also destroy biodiversity in fragile wildlife. They cause many effects to humans in many different ways. Zoonosis are very important to study because scientists await a challenge on developing vaccines on a developing cure on human aids. Zoontic diseases are dangerous because it can spread by mosquitos, and ticks.
The national system responsible for the health and welfare of United States citizens is the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “HHS is charged with regulating health care and overseeing the health status of Americans” (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2008, p. 56). A newer division, Office of Public Health Preparedness was added after September 11, 2011 to assist with preparing for bioterrorism at the state and national level (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2008). The U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) has eight agencies and is
The entity performs surveillance by monitoring and investigating any health threats that occur. The organization keeps the health care system aware, abreast, and prepared for emergency situations. It also aids the public health departments by offering subsidy and technical assistance. The CDC has a direct effect on the health care system because procedures the facilities implement are from the public health departments who learn from the CDC’s emergency protocols, (CDC, 2012).
Mission: Advance the health and safety of women and girls with a focus on disease prevention and wellness. (cdc.gov/women)
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was founded in 1946 (www.cdc.gov, n.d.). The CDC is one of the thirteen agencies that operates under the Department of Health and Human Services which is, " the principal agency in the United States government for protecting the health and safety of all Americans " (www.cdc.gov, n.d.). "Today, CDC is globally recognized for conducting research and investigations and
My disease that i am going to talk about is Zoonotic disease. Zoonotic disease is a disease that can be passed between animals and humans. Zoonotic diseases can be caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi. Symptoms and signs can be different depending on the parasite and the person. Scientists estimate that more than 6 out of every 10 infectious diseases in humans are spread from animals. You can get zoonotic disease by coming into contact with the saliva, blood, urine, or feces of an infected animal. Being bitten by a tick or mosquito (vector) and eating or drinking something unsafe . You can prevent it by always wash hands and follow proper hygiene, handle food safely, prevent bites from mosquitoes and ticks, know the simple things
Protecting the public’s health historically has been a state and local responsibility. However, the growing threat of bioterrorism has highlighted the importance of a strong public health infrastructure to the nation’s homeland security and has focused increased attention on the preparedness of the public health system (Frist, 2011). Since the 2001 anthrax attacks Congress has passed new legislation to increase the strength of the nation’s public health system thus the funding has also rapidly increased to meet the potential demand. There is an ongoing debate however, as to what level of contribution local, state, and federal agency’s feel is an appropriate level of ongoing public health investments.
Has been found worldwide in all countries that raise sheep. In the US this disease is seen a lot in the western states.
Anthrax is a zoonotic disease caused by a bacterium called Bacillus anthracis. In humans, it causes a cutaneous, gastrointestinal and inhalation form of disease. The bacteria are rare in Europe and America (1-3). The disease is especially common in areas with livestock such as sheep and cattle(4-6). Cattle, horses, sheep, goats and pigs are the most common animals that are affected by this disease. Transmission of this disease in humans occur by direct contact of defective skin with animal products or blood and rarely through insects (2,
It’s a fact that pet provides a lot of benefits to people. Nevertheless, some pets can carry microorganisms (pathogens) that can be passed on to people. Another name for these diseases is Zoonotic diseases. (A disease that can spread from animals to people) It’s usually caused by germs including viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungi.
The nature of infectious disease remains a far-reaching catalyst of poor public health. The inflation of new diseases, re-emergence of diseases and antimicrobial resistance to drugs is the result of changes in society and the microorganisms themselves (Cohen, 2000). The employment of drugs to prevent and combat disease often leads to drug resistance, as determined in the current antibiotic crisis. New ways of combating disease will and are being set up, such as the new budding theory of cross-reacting immunisation in bacterial infections. The primary weakness with this theory is that as a newfangled concept, its own complications will likely unfold. Pathogens are the causal agents of infectious disease and pathogens include micro
The CDC has resources that set up a plan for preventing and controlling emerging diseases. Prevention and control of communicable diseases is focused on elimination, eradication. Also, primary, secondary, and tertiary preventions and their role in prevention and control of communicable diseases is important to know. Teaching about immunizations when discharging a child from a hospital admission is an example of primary prevention.
