The movie “Breaking Away” presents the story of a young man from working class origins who seeks to better himself by creating a persona through which he almost, but not quite, wins the girl. The rivalry between the townies and the college students sets the scene for the story of four friends who learn to accept themselves as they "break away" from childhood and from their underdog self-images.
Dave Stoller, the main character, is a young man completely obsessed with cycling and Italy. His fantasies are so well fabricated that he drives his family crazy by behaving and speaking as if he were an Italian cyclist. Dave aspires to be one of the best cyclists yet the best racers are Italian. He feels that in order to be the best, he

Dave is made aware of his father’s feelings several times throughout the movie. He realizes when his parents are discussing Dave’s future loudly and when Dave’s father does not acknowledge Dave when giving a customer a test-drive.
The race in which Dave competes with his heroes the Italian racing team, the Cinzanos, serves as an important scene for Dave’s self-actualization. Dave is working hard to be at the same level as the famed cyclists. He tries to converse with them during the race to find that they only ignore him. As Dave is catching up to them, he is humiliated when the Cinzanos sabotage the race causing Dave to fall off his bike. Here, Dave discovers that they are meaner, shallower, and more class-conscious than the hated university students. Dave realizes that he is not an Italian nor wants to be one as he takes down the posters of the famed Italians from his bedroom walls. He lost his hopes and ideals that he found in his heroes.
After the race, Dave is convinced to enter the cycling race against the college students by his friends. Yet, his friend Mike is hesitant about the competition commenting that maybe the university students are better. However, this comment is made because Mike became timid after he had challenged the college student to a race swimming in the quarry and lost because he had hit his head on a rock. During the race at the university, Dave becomes hurt. This scene shows how Dave and his friends try to overcome the stereotypes about
The main character, Malik, is a cocky African American track star that thinks everyone has it easier than him. He feels that the world owes him something, but almost everyone in it will work to hold him down. Epps has made a living portraying one type of athlete or another, but this is probably his best work because he creates a character that can be very accurate and likeable one minute, but totally juvenile and wildly frustrating the next. He struggles throughout the movie, but like the Fredrick Douglas quote used here says, "without struggle there is no progress." Malik really grows up a lot because the three main people around him are good influences. Malik Williams (Omar Epps) fits the traditional athlete type: cocky and arrogant. An urban black male on a partial track scholarship, Malik is at school to run, not learn. His attitude is that the world owes him, not the other way around. The reality that he can lose comes as an ego-bruising lesson.
People will do anything they can to save a relationship. In the book The Art of Racing in the Rain, Garth Stein explores mental and physical perseverance in the face of hardship. Throughout the book, Denny deals with grief from the loss of his wife and problems that directly follow because of it. Adversity after adversity in Denny’s life seem to turn it completely upside down. Throughout the loss of Eve, custody battles over Zoe, and false accusations of rape against Denny, Stein emphasizes the importance of perseverance through times when giving up seems easy.
The riveting journey of Enzo and Denny takes place in Seattle, Washington. The two main characters of Garth Stein’s The Art of Racing in the Rain are a unique dynamic duo made up of a smart yellow Labrador named Enzo, and a racecar driver named Denny. The story of their experiences is told through the analytical eyes and nose of Enzo. I found this approach intriguing and captivating because it differs from the traditional way of story telling. Enzo is different from other dogs because he believes he is a dog with a human soul. “I’ve always felt almost human. I’ve always known that there’s something about me that’s different than other dogs. Sure, I’m … the shell. It’s what’s inside that’s important. The soul. And my soul is very
The bike is a symbol of escape, freedom, and symbolizes his life. It’s symbolizes escape because he thinks he can escape from reality, and not do anything out of his life. It symbolizes freedom to Dave because he can ride his bike and feel free without anyone telling him what to do. Dave’s bike symbolizes the whole movie because with his bike he is able to show that they aren’t cutters like they have always thought. If Dave wouldn’t have raced in the little 500 they would have stayed to be known as cutter for their rest of their life and they wouldn’t have confidence in their self’s if they would have lost the race. The bike also symbolizes his life because he might be able to get a scholarship if he decided to go to college. We know at the end of the movie that he does decide to go to college so they might have offered him a scholarship after they saw him race in the little

Everyone has a different style , but most of the older man are wearing collar shirts.
Peter Yates’ Breaking Away is a story, set in Bloomington, Indiana, of four boys who in the end become young adults each through a crisis, whether that be an identity crisis or they just do not know what they want to do, and the lessons that are learned in the end. Dave, Mike, Moocher, and Cyril all have one thing in common, they are known as the cutters. To the college students a cutter is someone who is a townie where they do not go to college and end up having to work as a limestone cutter. Within Breaking Away each setting is used to add an affect, characterization or a way to add to the plotline, that determines the ending results of each of the boy’s lives.
Cut and Run (1985) – Quecho - In this film, a reporter and her cameraman link a surviving Jonestown leader and a TV executive's missing son to a drug war where agents stationed in the jungle are being murdered by a native army and a seasoned assassin, who is portrayed by Michael Berryman.
The research on the relationship between Kirk Russell’s “The Four Great Themes of Literature” and the movie Chariots of Fire, illustrated the several advantageous characteristics an athlete could have, especially for the Olympics. These athletes, specifically the athletes from Great Britain, faced issues of British classism, a division of religion, and the motive of proving oneself. In the movie Chariots of Fire, Hugh Hudson uses the film to depict the trials and successes of the United Kingdom Olympic Team during the 1924 Paris Olympics. This is seen through the heroic acts of courage, the ability to overcome pressure, the love of sport, and the importance of class and character. The realm of athleticism and culture in the early 20th century is represented by connecting the Four Great Themes in Literature to the movie.

I never thought my work in the lab and at a school club would enhance each other to make me a better person. At a lab in the Health Science Center in San Antonio one summer, I committed myself to developing a solid foundation for research methods. Being the youngest researcher, I began by reporting data while working on a project involving dural leaks after skull base repairs. As I gained a greater understanding of the nature behind dural repair rupture pressures, I started to proactively parse the data by its repair strength while suggesting enhancements in the repair procedures. By my second year, I no longer required the watchful eye of my lab director. Managing a team of surgical specialists, I confidently conducted an improved study on larger dural defect repairs. By presenting my research in conferences, I strengthened my ability to educate. Ultimately, I enjoyed my path toward mastery of dural defect repairs
Old sparks fly and the men, who recall different accounts of the failed race, challenge each other to race again on the eve of their grandchildren’s wedding. What could go wrong? Just about everything.
Accelerators speed up the hydration (hardening) of the concrete. Typical materials used are CaCl2 and NaCl. However use of Chlorides may cause corrosion in steel reinforcing and is prohibited in some countries.
Carlos thought the present his brother gave him was okay, but that was the problem. It was just okay. It was a flashlight. What’s so great about a flashlight? I guess I can say it’s mine and keep it in my room. He’d wrap duct tape around the handle and put his name on it. That night in bed, he got out his birthday present. How lame. Why didn't he get me that pellet gun we talked about? He switched it on and shone it at his closet. He could see his clothes hanging .inside. Oops, I forgot to shut my closet door. I hate that, He got up to push the door closed, but was surprised to find it already shut tight...
I suppose there is something to be said for a good solid routine. First of all, when one establishes a routine, he or she needn’t think too much; everything just seems to fall into place day after day after day. Once we have our routine down, it simply becomes a matter of setting it in motion and watching everything unfold just as it did the time before and the time before that. Not only do we avoid thinking too much, but we also eliminate that cursed need to demonstrate creativity. Who needs that hassle? In grammar school, teachers taught us the importance of memorization and strict adherence to the order of events. In history, “In fourteen hundred and ninety two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.” In music, “Every-good-boy-does-fine.” In
