coming back. Bryon and Cathy get worried when M&M does not come back the next day, so they spend every night for a whole week looking around the Ribbon for any sign of him. After a bit of searching Bryon winds up with a job at the local supermarket. He starts to bring in some money, as does Mark Bryon assumes it’s from gambling and other things Mark does, but it is not. Bryon and Mark end up going cursing, and end up picking up Bryon’s ex Angela who was the one he set up the fight with Poneyboy. Mark ends up getting her drunk. When she passes out they cut her ling hair short to get back at her for the fight. At home Bryon starts talking about all the bad stuff that’s happened and how he hopes M&M is okay. He links M&M condition with Mark selling drugs, which also explains where he has been getting all the money. Bryon ends up calling the cops. When Mark gets home he try’s defend what he’s done, Bryon then realizes that Mark has no sense of right or wrong what so ever. The cops come and take Mark away while he’s asking Bryon why he’s doing this. The next morning Bryon in not sure if what he did was right. He realizes he no longer loves Cathy and grows away from her. Later he testifies against Mark in court. In which his dumbness gets him five years in the state reformatory. Bryon ends up devoting himself to work where he gets a promotion from sack boy to clerk. At the end of the summer Bryon decides to go and see Mark. There he tries to apologize and talks about the good times they had but Mark rejects it saying “that was then, this is now.” Later mark gets sent up the river to the state prison. Bryon says he has lost his ability to care anymore he thinks about the events of the previous year trying to figure out what happened to make these things happen. He wishes he was a kid again when he had all the answers. 5. The theme is coming of age; it shows some good and some bad things about growing up. I think this is the theme because of the way Bryon and Mark grow apart. It hints at how some things can’t last forever. 6.
