It is an important function because it helps to check the errors and to take the corrective action so that deviation from standards are minimized and stated goals of the organization are achieved in a desired manner.
According to modern concepts, control is a foreseeing action whereas earlier concept of control was used only when errors were detected. Control in management means setting standards, measuring actual performance and taking corrective action.

The Importance of Control for a manager are as follows:

Control provides the information and facts to the management for planning and organizing when the work is completed and the result is evaluated. In fact, evaluation of results helps the management replant for non-repetitive operations and rewarding, punishing and discipline the workers.
It would be better to say that future long term planning is not possible unless and until control information is available in time to the managers for the operation of work.
