In Which Layer of the Atmosphere Does Weather Occur?

Answer – Weather occurs in the lowermost layer of the atmosphere called the troposphere.

Explanation:

The word ‘weather’ is commonly explained as the ‘temporary state or condition of the atmosphere’.

The atmosphere, however, is divided into five main layers – troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and exosphere. Weather takes place only in the troposphere, which is the layer closest to the surface of the Earth. Its depth varies at different points of the Earth; it is thickest at the equator and thinnest at the poles.

The occurrences that make up the weather come about due to water vapor. Most of the water vapor in the Earth’s atmosphere is found in the troposphere, thus this is the region in which weather occurs.
