Josephus Albertus Alberdingk Thijm (1820–1889)

Alberdingk-Thijm, Josephus Albertus (äl’ber-dink-tīm’). A Dutch poet and art critic (1820–89). As a prose-writer he excels in the historical tale and literary sketch in narrative style, of which his ‘Portraits of Joost van den Vondel’ (1876) is a masterly specimen. Besides this the ‘Collected Tales in Prose’ (1879–83, 3 vols.) are noteworthy.
