Archibald Alexander (1772–1851)
Alexander, Archibald. An American theological and philosophical writer; born near Lexington, Rockbridge county, VA, April 17, 1772; died at Princeton, NJ, Oct. 22, 1851. He was a Presbyterian minister, president of Hampden-Sidney College, Virginia, and professor at Princeton Theological Seminary. His principal works were: ‘Evidences of Christianity’ (1823); ‘Treatise on the Canon of the Old and New Testaments’ (1826); ‘Outlines of Moral Science’ (1852). He was a distinguished preacher.
