Elizabeth Fries Ellet (1818–1877)

Ellet, Elizabeth Fries. An American prose-writer; born in Sodus Point, NY, in 1818; died on June 3, 1877. Among her books are a translation of Silvio Pellico’s ‘Euphemia of Messina’ (1834); ‘Poems, Original and Selected’ (1835); ‘Characters of Schiller’ (1842); ‘Pioneer Women of the West’ (1852); ‘Queens of American Society’ (1867); ‘Court Circles of the Republic,’ with Mrs. R. E. Mack (1869); ‘The Practical Housekeeper’; ‘Evenings at Woodlawn’; ‘Women Artists in All Ages.’
