Francisco Xavier de Menezes, Count of Ericeira (1673–1743)

Ericeira or Ericeyra, Francisco Xavier de Menezes, Count of (ār-ē-sā’rä). A Portuguese soldier and poet; born in Lisbon, 1673; died in 1743. He is a prominent figure in the literature of his country as the author of the ‘Henriqueida’ (1741), an epic poem, and a translator of Boileau.
