Manoel Severim de Faria (1583–1655)

Faria, Manoel Severim de (fä-rē’ä). A Portuguese biographer, essayist, and scholar; born in Lisbon, 1583; died at Evora, Sept. 25, 1655. He devoted many years to the study of his country’s literature, giving his researches and thought a lasting form in ‘Various Essays’ (1624), containing appreciations and biographies of Camões and other great writers. He also wrote ‘Jottings of Portugal’ (1655).
