James David Forbes (1809–1868)

Forbes, James David. A noted English physicist; born in Edinburgh, April 20, 1809; died in Clifton, Dec. 31, 1868. He investigated glacial formation, recording his deductions in ‘Travels through the Alps of Savoy’ (1843); ‘Illustrations of the Viscous Theory of Glacier Motion’ (1845); ‘Norway and its Glaciers’ (1853).
