Anton Ulrich, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (än’tōn, öl’riċh). A German novelist and poet (1633–1714), a zealous patron of art and science, author of two voluminous novels: ‘The Serene Syrian Aramena’ (1669–73) and ‘The Roman Octavia’ (1677). He also composed numerous sacred poems.
