Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen (1670–1739)

Freylinghausen, Johann Anastasius (frī’ling-hou”zen). A German theologian and hymnist; born in Gandersheim, Dec. 2, 1670; died in Halle, Feb. 12, 1739. His ‘Song-Book’ (1704) is a voluminous and meritorious compilation of sacred verse; and his work on the ‘Foundation of Theology’ is the masterpiece of the Pietist movement of Halle.
