Erik Gustaf Geijer (1783–1847)

Geijer, Erik Gustaf (yī’er). A Swedish historian; born in the province of Wermland, Jan. 12, 1783; died in Stockholm, April 23, 1847. At twenty-seven he became professor of history at the University of Upsala. His ‘History of the Swedish People,’ ‘History of the State of Sweden from 1718 to 1772,’ and various contributions to the history of philosophy, theology, and æsthetics, are epoch-making in Swedish letters. He had considerable musical talent, and many of his compositions have become favorite songs in Sweden.
