Sir Archibald Geikie (1835–1924)

Geikie, Sir Archibald (gē’kē). A Scotch geologist and scientific writer; born in Edinburgh, Dec. 28, 1835; died in 1924. In the course of a brilliant career of discovery and experiment he wrote: ‘Elementary Lessons in Physical Geography’ (4th ed. 1884); ‘Scenery of Scotland Viewed in Connection with its Physical Geology’ (2d ed. 1887); ‘Outlines of Field Geology’ (4th ed. 1891); ‘Text Book of Geology’; and ‘The Founders of Geology.’
