Karl August Görner (1806–1884)
Görner, Karl August (gėr’ner). A German playwright; born in Berlin, Jan. 29, 1806; died in Hamburg, April 9, 1884. He ran away from home when a lad in order to become an actor; eventually had a company of his own; and wrote over 100 successful plays, beginning with ‘The Gardener and his Wife.’ ‘Niece and Aunt,’ ‘Black Peter,’ ‘A Happy Paterfamilias,’ and ‘The Ennobled Shopkeeper,’ are some of the others.
