Hagedorn, Friedrich von (hä’ge-dorn). A German poet; born at Hamburg, April 23, 1708; died there, Oct. 28, 1754. He was successively in diplomacy, law, and trade, giving his leisure to literature. A volume of ‘Poetry, Fables, and Narratives,’ in 1838, after La Fontaine’s style, was well received, and followed by ‘Odes and Songs,’ and versified tales of a moral tendency.
