Max Halbe (1865–1944)

Halbe, Max (häl’bė). A German dramatist; born near Danzig, in 1865; died in 1944. His principal plays are: ‘A Self-Made Man’ (1889); ‘Free Love’ (1890); ‘Youth’ (1893); ‘Mother Earth’ (1897); ‘The Stream’ (1904); ‘The Isle of the Blest’ (1905); ‘Freedom’ (1913). Among his works of fiction are: ‘Frau Meseck’ (1897); ‘The Ring of Life’ (1911); ‘The Deed of Dietrich Stobaeus’ (1910).
